rolling motto
I stayed in the woods, and I played wit a six shot
Still fucked up from all the pills that I swallowed
School was a bore, I had
no
suspended
whole work
Pounds of hick stem, a fifth grade scum bag
Threw bags in for Christmas, I'm high on attention
I had holes in my vision
Before it was cool, I had unwanted attention
Young girls heartbroke, I'm nothin' but trouble
But life is a ditch, bitch, I'm just good wit a shovel
Yeah, you're probably right
I'm probably DUI when I'm driving tonight
I put my feet on the edge and kick my soul to the captain
And just like Travis, I'm surviving the flight
Yelling, "Go Alabama!",
holding my banjo
And turn up to Marshall and tune up to Dobro
My truck ain't stuck, I got a wrench in the toedo
Had friends but they threw me out, when I'm down and low
Yo what's up to the D-Boyz and the meth lab pimps
All you Kid Rock fans and all you hippies in hemp
If you've got the Greatest of Johnny right next to Straight Outta Compton
You brought a shovel like mine, you probably been to the ditch
It's all about compromise
I see problems down the line
I know that I'm right
I know that I'm right
Yelawolf's "Come on Over" is a personal reflection of his life, where he discusses his past struggles with drug addiction, his troubled childhood, and his present-day tribulations. He dismisses suggestions of partying with alcohol, asserting that his life is already a mess without it. The first few lines "Six pack, my life's in a bottle/ Rolling motto" symbolize his alcoholic struggles, while the line "I stayed in the woods, and I played with a six-shot" suggests that he was involved with guns. In the following line "Still fucked up from all the pills that I swallowed," Yelawolf is honest in his admission that he still deals with emotional trauma from his drug days.
The second verse delves into his childhood, where he admits to being a "suspended whole work." He was kicked out of school and involved in a weed-smoking circle, indicative of his disruptive behavior. He mentions his addiction to hickory stems and threw in weed bags for Christmas. The verse concludes with the line "Life is a ditch, bitch, I'm just good with a shovel," which can be interpreted as a coping mechanism to deal with life's struggles. In the last verse, the rapper gives a shout-out to various people, including Kid Rock fans, meth-labs, and Johnny Cash. The final lines, "It's all about compromise/ I see problems down the line/ I know that I'm right," reveal his commitment to living life without regrets.
