Yello was originally formed by Boris Blank and Carlos Perón in the late 1970s. Dieter Meier, a millionaire playboy with a very versatile career, was brought in when the two founders realised that they needed a singer. Meier and Blank joined forces in 1979 to release a single called I.T. Splash. The LP Solid Pleasure, featuring the hit dance single Bostich, was released the following year. It wasn't until 1983 that Yello received substantial media attention, with the release of I Love You and Lost Again. Peron left the band in 1983 to start a solo career.
Yello takes great pride in their original sound, which is mainly characterised by weird samples, a heavy reliance on rhythm and Dieter Meier's dark voice. Every track on a Yello album has been created by the band from scratch.
Sounds have been created using synths, samplers and effects by Boris Blank.
Yello rarely uses samples from previously released music; nearly every instrument has been sampled and engineered by Boris Blank, who over the years has built up an original sample library of over 100,000 named and categorized sounds.
The music is composed by Boris Blank, who considers himself a percussionist. When the tracks are mostly finished, Dieter Meier adds the vocal parts when fitting.

I've been rushing and running away
I have seen the cities
The bars and the beaches are full
To keep away from you
I know I'll meet you
One day, for a lifetime
I'm scared
I'm scared
And run away forever
For all that time I've been crazy
There is no escape
Come back to the city
Come back in the hotel and wait
The city waits forever
Yello's song "Call It Love" is a contemplative piece that delves into the singer's emotional struggles as he grapples with his love for someone. For years, he has been rushing and running away, as he has seen the cities, bars and beaches, all while trying to avoid this person. However, he acknowledges that he will meet them one day - their love is destined, that they'll be in each other's lives for a lifetime, and that thought alone scares him.
The singer then goes on to describe how he could live for one thousand years just to be with this person, but at the same time, he's scared and wants to run away forever. It's a feeling of being trapped inside his thoughts and emotions, knowing that he cannot escape the love he feels for this person. He acknowledges that he's been crazy all this time, and no matter how much he tries to escape, the city, and everything it represents, will always be waiting for him.
Overall, the song speaks of the struggle that comes with being in love and knowing that it's inevitable. It's about the fear of being vulnerable, of opening oneself up to love and emotion while being scared of what that might entail. Through these raw and vulnerable lyrics, Yello shows us the complexities of the human heart when it comes to love.

An amazing song from an even more amazing band. I have loved the music of Yello for over 30 years. Visionaries who never drifted from their own path, and they are all the better for it. Thank you for the music gentlemen.
