Yello was originally formed by Boris Blank and Carlos Perón in the late 1970s. Dieter Meier, a millionaire playboy with a very versatile career, was brought in when the two founders realised that they needed a singer. Meier and Blank joined forces in 1979 to release a single called I.T. Splash. The LP Solid Pleasure, featuring the hit dance single Bostich, was released the following year. It wasn't until 1983 that Yello received substantial media attention, with the release of I Love You and Lost Again. Peron left the band in 1983 to start a solo career.
Yello takes great pride in their original sound, which is mainly characterised by weird samples, a heavy reliance on rhythm and Dieter Meier's dark voice. Every track on a Yello album has been created by the band from scratch.
Sounds have been created using synths, samplers and effects by Boris Blank.
Yello rarely uses samples from previously released music; nearly every instrument has been sampled and engineered by Boris Blank, who over the years has built up an original sample library of over 100,000 named and categorized sounds.
The music is composed by Boris Blank, who considers himself a percussionist. When the tracks are mostly finished, Dieter Meier adds the vocal parts when fitting.

The smile is still burning
Dancing my way
?
A crown for the clown, I smile, and I run
For years now I'm driven
A smile, unforgiven
?
Awaiting your big smile,
I'm rushing downtown while you're gone
For years now I'm driven, a smile unforgiven, the one
I'm riding the night train
The window's a mirror
I'm dancing with strangers
I'm waiting...for you
Awaiting your big smile,
I'm rushing downtown while you're gone
For years now I'm driven, a smile unforgiven, the one
A crown for the clown, a smiling crowd, and you're gone
For years now I'm driven, a smile unforgiven, the one
The lyrics to Yello's song Night Train suggest a journey of self-reflection and a longing for someone's affection. The singer is riding the night train, looking out the window while dancing with strangers. They are driven by a smile that has yet to be forgiven, a mystery that is left unexplained. The crown for the clown may be a metaphor for the singer's public image, always putting on a happy face despite their inner turmoil. They smile and run, but the smile remains burning, suggesting that the facade is beginning to crumble.
The repetition of "for years now I'm driven, a smile unforgiven, the one" implies that this is a recurring theme for the singer, possibly indicating a deep-rooted issue. The line "I'm waiting...for you" suggests that the singer is waiting for someone to save them, possibly the subject of their affection. The window acts as a mirror, reflecting the singer's inner self, which is dancing with strangers, yet still waiting for their love.

The most underrated band ever if you ask me!
Been a fan for more than 30 years. This one is one of their greatest ever, the atmosphere is just unbeliavable!
Sad but yet it keeps your foot stumping in the beat. excellent!

They were over-shadowed by that awful Ferris Bueller flick. Seriously. I followed them from the very first Ralph Records release. I cringe when I hear Oh Yeah
