Good Day
Yellow Claw Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You make me feel like all those kids that
Were supposed to stay the night but
Changed their mind and called their mommy
You are not me, I am dirty
You make me feel like all those kids that
Were supposed to stay the night but
Changed their mind and called their mommy
You are not me

Remember that day, we met for coffee and you were late
Yeah, we chatted 'bout you and you mostly but a bit about me
And then we went back to yours and I never been there before
On the blue line subway
Yeah, I think it was raining, yeah, you made me a painting
Sing a song about dolphins, young love, was calling

It was a good day
Oh, what a good day
But it is long gone now
When all the stars fell down
It was a good day
Oh, what a good day
That day you broke my heart
I loved you way too hard
Now I'm free

Remember so well, that time when I found a dog
I thought you'd be cool, not cool at all when you opened the door (come on)
You said I was your soulmate and I was there on my way
On the blue line subway
And I think it was snowing 'cause the city was glowing
Yeah, I started to notice, young love, was broken

It was a good day
Oh, what a good day
But it is long gone now
When all the stars fell down
It was a good day
Oh, what a good day
That day you broke my heart
I loved you way too hard
Now I'm free

Free, free, free falling

Overall Meaning

The song “Good Day,” by Yellow Claw and DJ Snake, is a slow-paced track filled with melancholic melodies, electronic beats, and a pronounced usage of synthesizers that gives the song a unique flavor. The lyrics reveal a story of heartbreak caused by the end of a relationship that was once “a good day” but now is only a reminder of a love that has ended. The chorus repeats the phrase “It was a good day, oh, what a good day, but it is long gone now, when all the stars fell down” to emphasize the sadness that comes with reliving the memories of that relationship.

The verses provide an honest and raw look into the singer’s past and how that person has impacted their life positively and negatively. It seems like the singer had a genuine connection with their lover, as shown by the line, “You said I was your soulmate, and I was there on my way.” However, the relationship ended with heartbreak because of the intensity of the love, which they describe as “I loved you way too hard.” The singer is now free from that relationship and can finally feel as though they have moved on.
