Love & War
Yellow Claw ft. Yade Lauren Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Cut me through my skin
To the heart, yeah, you went right in
I fell for every word you said

I can't leave but I can't stay
I don't know, I don't know, I don't know
Why some things have to be this way
We build it up to break it down
And then we're lost until we're found
And when we're high further from the ground
If all is fair in love and war
I can't do this anymore
If all is fair in love and war
I can't do this anymore

So unfair, so unfair, so unfair to me
So unfair, so unfair, so unfair to me

You told me from the start
Nothing could tear us apart
Now when I look I see a stranger

I can't leave but I can't stay
I don't know, I don't know, I don't know
Why some things have to end this way

We build it up to break it down
And then we're lost until we're found
And when we're high further from the ground
If all is fair in love and war
I can't do this anymore
If all is fair in love and war
I can't do this anymore

So unfair, so unfair, so unfair to me
So unfair, so unfair, so unfair to me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Yellow Claw's song Love & War depict a tumultuous relationship that has taken a toll on the singer's emotions. The opening verse describes the pain and vulnerability that the singer feels as a result of being deeply hurt by their partner. The line "cut me through my skin, to the heart, yeah, you went right in" implies that they allowed themselves to become emotionally vulnerable to their partner, only to be hurt deeply. The singer has fallen for every word their partner has said and cannot fathom why they have to go through so much pain in this relationship.

The chorus of the song reflects the push and pull that makes this relationship so difficult for the singer. They feel stuck, unable to leave but also unable to stay. They are grappling with the fact that despite their deep love for their partner, they are unable to continue with the relationship due to the immense pain it causes them. The line "we build it up to break it down, and then we're lost until we're found" portrays the cyclical nature of this relationship, one in which moments of intense connection are quickly followed by periods of distance.

The final verse portrays the confusion that the singer feels, as they try to reconcile the person they thought their partner was with the stranger they see before them now. The line "nothing could tear us apart" highlights the initial strength and intimacy that they shared with their partner, but that has since disintegrated, leaving the singer feeling lost and alone. Overall, the lyrics to Love & War depict a relationship in which love and pain exist simultaneously, leaving the singer with no choice but to leave.

So I was bored , and I tried to interpret what this video really means. Feel free to share your ideas

The boy - He probably had a dream (going to sea) but his obstacle right now, is his young age. He knew the world is going to end, so he let go of the fishes to let them felt their last moment of life. Felt that he also need to feel the freedom , he went to the sea in his own way, achieving his dream. (Freedom)

The Man - He has a career he longing for, but he lived long enough under the pressure , yet he found no peace. When everything comes to an end, he finally trying to calm himself down, and finding peace. Even if it is for a short time, and might felt that he should have his time more to find peace, but at least he receive what he wanted. (Peace)

The Woman - She is around the people full of fun and pleasure, yet she found no peace for herself. No hopes for herself , she felt discontent, but, feeling curious and confused on why people around her keep dancing and having fun despite the end of the world coming nearby, she learned that she had to accept things no matter how hard it it .(Acceptance)

The family - They had nothing at all, but they got each other as family, The mom, appreciating what she only had in this world (child) , while the Dad cries cause the only treasure he had in this world is about to lose right in front of his own eyes , and has to accept that they have little time with their loved one, but in the end, they had what the happiness really mean for them, which is a family. (Happiness)

These four values might represent the song title "Love and War" itself, since most of people tend to have problems with these values within themselves, either in individually, or in a relationship.
