The lyrics of this song essentially talks about the cycle of life and death. Two concepts that are inevitable and are constantly oscillating in circles. The way the lyrics have been structured attracts some deep thoughts and feelings, making the listener think about their own life and mortality. The first two lines of the lyrics, 'Life and death are oscillating, in circles' give the song its title 'Circles'. This tells us about the inevitability of death, and how it is an integral part of our lives. Whether we like it or not, it is always present, and this cycle is never-ending. The next two lines 'We are in this forever and alone, We'll always be travelling for ever, And never get home', illustrates how we live our entire lives in this cycle of life and death, and even though we go through it alone, it is a journey that continues and never ends, we never really get to call it 'home'.
The next verse of the song seems like a plea to someone or something greater, to take away the fear of dying and to give the singer some sort of assurance that death is okay, and it is okay to disappear. It is a vulnerable line, and it shows how terrified we all can be when we think about our own mortality. Overall, the song seems like a meditation on life, death and our own mortality, it makes us think and reflect on our own lives.
