Changes
Yes Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Iâ??m moving through some changes
Iâ??ll never be the same
Something you did touched me
Thereâ??s no one else to blame

The love we had has fallen
The love we used to share
Weâ??ve given up pretending
As if you didnâ??t care

Change changing places
Root yourself to the ground
Capitalize on this good fortune
One word can bring you round
Changes

I look into the mirror
I see no happiness
All the warmth I gave you
Has turned to emptiness
The love we had has fallen
The love we used to share
Youâ??ve left me here believing
In love that wasnâ??t there

Change changing places
Root yourself to the ground
Word to the wise - well you get whatâ??s coming
One word can bring you round
Changes

When I look into your eyes and try to find out how
Thereâ??s no way to save it now
And everything I feel
Changes
Keep looking for
Changes
Changes

For some reason youâ??re questioning why
I always believe it gets better
One difference between you and i
Your heart is inside your head

One word from you
One word from me
A clear design on your liberty
Who could believe when love has gone
How we move on like everyone

Only such fools
Only such jealous hearts

Only through love changes come

Change changing places
Root yourself to the ground
Capitalize on this good fortune
One word can bring you round
Changes

One road to loneliness
Itâ??s always the same
One road to happiness
Itâ??s calling your name

Change changing places - changes
Root yourself to the ground
Capitalize on this good fortune
One word can bring you round
Changes

Change changing places
Changes
Root yourself to the ground
Word to the wise - well you get whatâ??s coming

One word - one word can bring you round
Changes

Overall Meaning

The song "Changes" by Yes, is about the end of a relationship and the changes that come with it. The lyrics talk about the singer's realization that the love he once shared with his former partner is gone and they have moved on. The lyrics imply that he is struggling to come to terms with the end of the relationship and is trying to find a way to move on. The lyrics, "I'm moving through some changes, I'll never be the same" speaks of how people transform through experiences and that relationships are not going to be like before.

The lyrics also suggest that the singer is trying to give himself advice on how to move on, "Change changing places, root yourself to the ground, capitalize on this good fortune, one word can bring you round" suggests that he is urging himself to change his way of thinking and that one word can make a difference. The phrase, "one word can bring you round", is a reminder that even small changes or a single word of encouragement can have a significant impact in one's life.

The chorus of the song, "Change changing places, root yourself to the ground" recurs and suggests that change is inevitable, and one has to adapt to it. The overall message of the song is that even though changes can be challenging, they are necessary for personal growth, and people should embrace them.

Me estoy moviendo a través de algunos cambios
Nunca seré el mismo
Algo que me ha tocado
No hay nadie más a quien culpar

El amor que teníamos se ha reducido
El amor que utiliza para compartir
Hemos renunciado a fingir
Como si no le importaba

Cambiar el cambio de lugares
Arraigar a sí mismo a la tierra
Sacar provecho de esta buena fortuna
Una palabra puede lograr que ronda
cambios

Me miro en el espejo
No veo la felicidad
Todo el calor que te di
Ha convertido a la vacuidad
El amor que teníamos se ha reducido
El amor que utiliza para compartir
Me has dejado aquí creyendo

cambios

Un camino a la soledad
Siempre es lo mismo
Un camino hacia la felicidad
Está llamando a su nombre

Cambiar cambiando de lugar... Cambios
Arraigar a sí mismo a la tierra
Sacar provecho de esta buena fortuna
Una palabra puede lograr que ronda
cambios

Cambiar el cambio de lugares
cambios
Arraigar a sí mismo a la tierra
Palabra al respecto... bien se obtiene lo que se avecina
Una palabra... una palabra que puede traer ronda de cambios

I think this is not only one of the greatest songs ever written, but one of the best songs ever, actually.

I still remember the day I heard this song for the first time. I had only been drumming a few years at that point, and my Godfather showed me a band called Yes. I remember hearing Owner of a Lonely Heart on the Radio before but nothing else. He showed me this song and said "See if you can handle Alan White" as soon as that opening riff and drums kicked in I was hooked. Still comeback to this song as one of my favorites and Starship Trooper.
