I had this played at my wedding during the bridal party procession back in May of 1998. A long time friend played the piano and my neighbor a flutist both played it beautifully. Every time I hear it I brings tears to my eyes. So moving. Still married after 18 years and for this years 18th anniversary my 15 year old daughter on cello and my other 13 year old daughter on piano are planning on performing this piece as a gift for us.

I think the snag is that the impression YouTube give in the listing is that this is a video recording not the commercial recording with stills - the music is still wonderful, but if you wanted to see the piece being played, you'd be disappointed - that's all.

We played this piece at our wedding at the beautiful loggia at Hever Castle overlooking the lake....my father passed away so could not give me away, but I help a lock of his hair in a blue pouche as I walked and had the strength of this beautiful piece - it felt like I floated on air across the lawn to say my vows. It was a magical day made special by this god sent music.

Emotions I didn't know i had well up from deep within while I'm listening. it is literally Heaven invading Earth, and only in Heaven is there anything that can surpass it. Two Masters musicians. I loved Westerns growing up, and listening to Ecstasy of Gold, I can still see Tuco (Eli Wallach) running through the cemetery searching for the hidden gold....Yo Yo Ma's fluidity is incredible.

There is some music which fills the soul and brings us to a sense of oneness with the divine. Even if there were no God, this music would create such a one since it could only arise in perfect union with the divine. Real music sings in the heart of God. That is the meaning of Beauty. Thanks for this... I am finishing my 23rd year as a high school instructor. Final exams are next week. As I do every year, I lament that there was so much I was not able to teach my students... I will hand diplomas to them next Thursday, and I will pray and hope that my influence will allow them to achieve their happiness and their peace. I play The Mission to them and they giggle at breasts, but I hope that they hear/feel good and bad in people and that they will contribute to the good.

+Palmer Short Once a month I choose a movie to show at out Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. Last month I picked " The Mission" with a young Robert DeNiro and Jeremy Irons. Enrico Morricone, who was honored at this years Academy Awards, his music was the background for the movie The Mission. After the movie ended I let the credits roll on and on ,no one wanted to leave. Finally they started to file out. One gentleman came up to me , and I could see his eyes were red , simply said thank you shook my hand and walked out. I just nodded.

The movie, THE MISSION. was so intense and such a powerful example of the true faith of the faithful beyond any institution and politics of the day. It showed how powerful the love of ones faith and of the faithful were not to be deterred by any act of man.
Marricone's music was such z powerful force giving the message and emotion to the depth of your soul.

In the Santa Barbara CA Mission, I was at my brothers wedding as the bridesmaid. My sister-in-law walked through the big wooden doors, light flooring in with this song playing. She looked like an angel. The moment took my breath away and I cried and cried with emotion.
4 years later I used this song for my entrance into the Catholic Church I was married in. The sweet piano player learned it just for me. It was just amazing.

It is about how although we maybe born into this world alone (unless you're a twin/triplet/etc. LOL) and at times it may feel like you undergo struggles alone, there is a community out there who will love and support you. After conducting many bands and orchestras for over 40 years, and performing in numerous ensembles, the cello in the passionate hands of Yo-Yo Ma is indeed something amazing, and has truly inspired me to inspire others. Thank you Maestro Ma. He is unquestionably the finest cellist of the late 20th and our 21st century. He even makes God smile for His gift to mankind through Yo-Yo. I went to see the film when it came out in 1986 and immediately bought the soundtrack on vinyl, it was so beautiful. Now my 14-year-old is singing this piece with her school choir, and I'm so happy!! Her vocal teacher told me she walked down the aisle to it!
