IT'S ALRIGHT
Yo La Tengo Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I don't care about your ways
of love and life and walkin'
And I don't care about your days
Of carin' and not talkin'
But It's all right the way that you live
It's all right the way that you live
It's alright
I don't care about your present pay
and your night life you keep burning
And I don't care about what your old man says
all the ways you have of learnin'
It's your right the way that you live
It's all right the way that you live
You won't call
It doesn't matter if your sun shines out in the evening
Don't wait, it won't wait for you to come all night, come a-running.
I don't care about your ways
of love and life and walkin'
And I don't care about your days
Of carin' and not talkin'
It's alright the way that you live
It's alright the way that you live

It's alright the way that you live
It's alright the way that you live

Overall Meaning

In "It's Alright", Yo La Tengo delivers a message about accepting individuality and diversity. The lyrics suggest that the singer is indifferent to the ways in which others choose to live their lives or the choices they make, suggesting that lives lived differently can still be "alright" and accepted. This point is reinforced through the repetition of the phrase, "It's alright the way that you live". The lyrics appear to be a protest against conformity and societal norms, reminding listeners that everyone has the right to live their life their way, and that this should be accepted and celebrated.

The repetition of the phrase "It's alright" creates a calming effect throughout the song, suggesting that the differences between people and their lifestyles should be accepted rather than feared. The singer acknowledges that everyone's life is unique, and that this should be celebrated, rather than criticized or judged. The lyrics deliver a message of acceptance and open-mindedness, encouraging listeners to look beyond their own experiences and judgements and recognize the worth of each and every individual.

It has some similarities with Led Zeppelin's Ramble On bassline!

Sushant Bhadkamkar

I should mention that this is a cover of the Velvet Underground's unreleased song. Good cover though!

Adrien Koo

A Tree

I like your SN a lot. You seem like an idiot though.

Shapiro's DEAD Cat

It's not even a "cover."
The vocals are flat out fucking stolen.

The rest just sounds like someone practiced really well and recorded over the whimsical basement atmosphere of the original-- with their own, shitty (though well practiced), garage-band-brand version of the instrumentals. Overall a 2/10. Shitty shitty shitty. The reason I listen to the VU in the first place is to hear GOOD shitty music. Not shitty shitty music!
