She was the youngest of four children. At a very young age she started to listen to artists like Lola Beltran, Lucha Villa and Amalia Mendoza on the radio. Her mother encouraged her to sing. At school they also noticed her love for singing and they let her sing on special occasions. They called her "La Pequeña Gigante"

She became a successful ranchera singer.

In 1984 she got a Grammy nomination.

She starred in many Mexican movies. La Hija de Nadie (1976) was the first one. It was based on one of her most successful songs, with the same title.

She still records today, having 44 cds on the market, and with her new CD "Verdades Que Duelen" coming out in late September 2008.

She lives in San Antonio, Texas since 2005.
