Monge started out by winning a radio contest in 1966 (at the age of eleven). In 1968, she signed with record label Patty Records, which released her first album, named Puerto Rico's Poignant...Powerful...Incomparable: Yolandita Monge.
She followed up with some other hits in Puerto Rico, but she moved to Mexico, where she signed with TECA records company and had hits such as Vete de Aqui (Get out Of Here), Por qué Papá? (Why, Dad?) and La Voz Del Silencio (The Voice of Silence).
1975 was a big year for Monge, she released "Cierra Los Ojos" (Close Your Eyes), which earned her wild fame in such South American countries as Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Venezuela, Peru, Santo Domingo, and Argentina. Yolandita declared as an international star.

Tengo 70 años, acabo de despertar y en lo que soñaba estaba cantando esta cancion, y la nostalgia llega recordando esa hermosa adolecencia, donde el amor y la amistad eran hermosas, era todo tan tierno, tan limpio, bueno al final del camino nos quedan nuestros hijos, nietos y esos recuerdos tan hermosos.

En este caso especial, si bien esta canción me hace llorar al escucharla, no es por un desamor, sino por el recuerdo que me trae de mi mamá. A mamá la cuide diez años después del ACV, fuimos muy cómplices, le encantaba la música del recuerdo. El 9 de abril de este 2019 se fue con Dios. Descansa en paz. Canciones como esta son las que inevitablemente me emocionan hasta las lagrimas al escucharlas, a veces me desgarran. Solo necesito tiempo para superar este dolor. Siempre, siempre, seguiré escuchando estas canciones. Son una caricia al alma, a los recuerdos y a las nostalgias.

Puedo entenderte perfectamente , mi padre también acaba de partir al cielo hace unos meces y en este momento acabo de escuchar esta canción y me hizo viajar a aquellos años felices dónde yo era felíz al lado de mis amados padres y escuchando esta música entrañable 😔, que DIOS te acompañe y te llene de mucho amor y conformidad .
