The band's drummer, Aaron Stern, recalls the few minutes preceding the blaze: "We were actually mid-argument about releasing new music on our own when the tire initially blew. After we watched the van burn up, we kind of took it as a sign to get our tails in the studio." You, Me, and Everyone We Know then quickly enlisted the services of producer Josh Cain (of Motion City Soundtrack) and made plans to begin recording in Minneapolis days after ending a tour with the city's own Sing It Loud. So, the band picked itself back up, made the trek to Minnesota, and began recording an EP they would aptly name, So Young, So Insane.
You, Me, and Everyone We Know continues to draw from similar influences on their latest effort, though the band doesn't deny growing a little over the last two years. "The core of this band is definitely still here," says guitarist Noel Milford. "I think no matter kind of feel a song has, you're definitely going to know it's us playing it."
Things are changing for You, Me, and Everyone We Know, with So Young, So Insane set to be released on November 18th, a full U.S. Tour in November and December, and an attitude that anything CAN and WILL happen. In keeping with the "unsigned and just fine" attitude they have come to adopt over the last 2 or so years, You, Me, and Everyone We Know has once again elected to give away their new EP, So Young, So Insane, digitally for a limited time. "The days of 'needing' a label are gone for us," says guitarist Rico Vigil. "If and when we sign, we will look back on this knowing it was the smartest decision we ever made for this band."
A Bigger Point of Pride

My back is strong, my eyes are wide
I want the work I do to be a bigger point of pride
Grow up, get a job, and cut that hair
Run off, join the army for all they care,
Or bring a blanket; it gets awfully cold
When you can't afford the heat and you're sleepin' alone
Love living life from couch to couch
Thought myself content living hand to mouth
But when everything you own fits in a single bag,
No matter how light the load, it tends to drag
While the years are still on my side,
My back is strong, my eyes are wide
I want the work I do to be a bigger point of pride
Momma said there'd be days like this
But she's been too late too much this year
(Momma said, Momma said)
Waking up when I was going to sleep before;
Bars are closing, I'm already out the door
No semblance of stability
On old runner's legs in doubt
I still even have the ability
To run this race without
My sacrifice... Recognize...
While the years are still on my side,
My back is strong, my eyes are wide
I want the work I do to be a bigger point of pride
While the years are still on my side,
My back is strong, my eyes are wide
I want the work I do to be a bigger point of pride
I make junk mail for The Man
Soon I'll be inking up your hands
While you toss away my work
Machines whir and I make plans
I make junk mail for The Man
I've been inking up your hands
While your sacrifice goes unrecognized...
While the years are still on my side,
My back is strong, my eyes are wide
I want the work I do to be a bigger point of pride
While the years are still on my side,
My back is strong, my eyes are wide
I want the work I do to be a bigger point of pride
I want the work I do to be a bigger point of pride
I want the work I do to be a bigger point of pride
The song "A Bigger Point of Pride" by You Me and Everyone We Know expresses a desire for meaningful work and a sense of pride in one's accomplishments. The lyrics reflect the struggle of a young person trying to make their way in the world while balancing the demands of life and the pursuit of fulfillment. The opening lines convey a sense of determination and purpose, suggesting that the singer is not content to simply survive, but wants to thrive.
The second verse touches on themes of poverty and transience, describing the challenges of a life lived "from couch to couch" and the weight of carrying all of one's possessions in a single bag. The lyrics explore the tension between the desire for freedom and the need for stability, with the singer struggling to find their footing in an uncertain world.
The final verses express a sense of anger and frustration at the singer's job making "junk mail for The Man" and the feeling that their efforts go unappreciated. The repetition of the chorus emphasizes the desire for something more, for work that is personally fulfilling and a source of pride.
Overall, "A Bigger Point of Pride" is a powerful expression of the struggle to find meaning and purpose in one's work, and a reminder that the pursuit of success is not always straightforward or easy.
