The band's drummer, Aaron Stern, recalls the few minutes preceding the blaze: "We were actually mid-argument about releasing new music on our own when the tire initially blew. After we watched the van burn up, we kind of took it as a sign to get our tails in the studio." You, Me, and Everyone We Know then quickly enlisted the services of producer Josh Cain (of Motion City Soundtrack) and made plans to begin recording in Minneapolis days after ending a tour with the city's own Sing It Loud. So, the band picked itself back up, made the trek to Minnesota, and began recording an EP they would aptly name, So Young, So Insane.
You, Me, and Everyone We Know continues to draw from similar influences on their latest effort, though the band doesn't deny growing a little over the last two years. "The core of this band is definitely still here," says guitarist Noel Milford. "I think no matter kind of feel a song has, you're definitely going to know it's us playing it."
Things are changing for You, Me, and Everyone We Know, with So Young, So Insane set to be released on November 18th, a full U.S. Tour in November and December, and an attitude that anything CAN and WILL happen. In keeping with the "unsigned and just fine" attitude they have come to adopt over the last 2 or so years, You, Me, and Everyone We Know has once again elected to give away their new EP, So Young, So Insane, digitally for a limited time. "The days of 'needing' a label are gone for us," says guitarist Rico Vigil. "If and when we sign, we will look back on this knowing it was the smartest decision we ever made for this band."
A Symptom
You Me and Everyone We Know Lyrics

To tell you all about you making all the wrong hands
But I grind my teeth, and I'll pick this scar
Anything to make it through a night at the bar
Leave me with flat teeth, with fresh wounds, another nervous tick
Please leave me on the kitchen floor, with my dignity while I get sick
Bleed me out like an open sore
Go ahead blame the moon and sun, then deny me
Because that's what makes this fun.
Your just a symptom
Your just a symptom
Your just, your just a symptom
Your just a symptom, your just
Your just a symptom
Just a symptom
Bleed me out like an open sore
Say its me that makes you a whore
Go ahead blame the moon and sun, then deny me
Because that's what makes this fun
The lyrics of You Me And Everyone We Know's song "A Symptom" delve into the theme of a toxic and unhealthy relationship, where the singer feels compelled to point out their partner's faults but is unable to leave. The lyrics "But I grind my teeth, and I'll pick this scar, anything to make it through a night at the bar" suggest that the singer is aware of their partner's shortcomings but remains with them, holding onto the relationship despite the pain it causes. The line "Leave me with flat teeth, with fresh wounds, another nervous tick" suggests that the singer is struggling to cope with the toxic relationship and is driven to self-harm.
The lyrics "Bleed me out like an open sore, say it's me that makes you a whore" are indicative of the emotional abuse the singer is enduring in the relationship. The partner blames the singer for their actions, causing them to feel shame and guilt. However, the singer is still unable to let go, as seen in the lyrics "Go ahead, blame the moon and sun, then deny me, because that's what makes this fun." The singer knows that they are being manipulated and mistreated, but there is an addiction to the emotional thrill of the relationship that they cannot escape.
Overall, "A Symptom" explores the complexities of an unhealthy relationship and how it can be difficult to break free, even when it causes emotional harm.
