YoungBoy started writing and making music around the age of fourteen, eventually dropping his first mixtape Life Before Fame in April of 2015.
YoungBoy started to gain recognition when he dropped his projects Mind Of A Menace 3, Before I Go, and 38 Baby, but gained the most recognition for his hit song โ38 Baby.โ
Shortly after the success of โ38 Babyโ Young Boy was arrested on November 28, 2016, and was charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder in connection with a drive-by shooting which occurred November 7, 2016. YoungBoy ended up being sentenced to a ten-year suspended prison sentence after serving six months in prison.
After YoungBoy was released from jail, he dropped โUntouchableโ which is one of his biggest hits to date. Following the release of โUntouchable,โ YoungBoy released AI YoungBoy on August 4, 2017.
Later on, in 2017 YoungBoy ended the year by dropping Ainโt Too Long and started 2018 by releasing his debut studio album, Until Death Call My Name.
Nowadays YoungBoy has come up with more famous tracks such as โDrawing Symbols,โ โLil Top,โ โHouse Arrest Tingzโ and โAroundโ. These have appeared on albums as AI Youngboy II, Still Flexin', Still Steppin' and Top.
On March 25, 2021, the rapper was taken into custody by the FBI on an outstanding federal warrant for drug and weapon charges which date back to 2016. While locked up, YoungBoyโs team released the rapperโs third studio album, Sincerely, Kentrell, on September 24, 2021: it was originally set to be released in May of the same year. Nearly a month after, on October 22, YoungBoy was released from jail on a $500K bond and is currently placed on house arrest in Utah.
Ending 2021, YoungBoy partnered with the fellow Louisiana native, Birdman to present the two artists' joint mixtape, From The Bayou which would peak at #19 on the Billboard 200.
Beginning 2022 to a ferocious start, YoungBoy would begin to diss King Von on songs such as โBring The Hook,โ and โFish Scale.โ These songs would soon appear on YoungBoyโs eighteenth mixtape, Colors which would later peak at #2 on the Billboard 200.
Later in the year, just a month afterward, YoungBoy would find himself in a viral controversy with the Chicago native, Lil Durk as both of them exchanged brutal disses from Durkโs โAHHH HA,โ to YoungBoyโs โI Hate YoungBoyโ โ both regarding the death of King Von.
Following his hastily start to 2022, YoungBoy would partner up with DaBaby to present the duoโs joint mixtape, BETTER THAN YOU in March. The mixtape would later peak at #10 on the Billboard 200, this would mark YoungBoyโs ninth top ten.
On April 1, 2022, continuing his victorious run, YoungBoy would release The Last Slimeto Sampler, a sample album for his August release, The Last Slimeto. This album would mark YoungBoyโs final album with Atlantic Records.
On July 15, 2022, YoungBoy was found not guilty of his federal guns charge. In a interview on Instagram, YoungBoy announced that he and his team were planning to go on tour.
As planned, on August 5, 2022, YoungBoy released The Last Slimeto which would mark his last album with Atlantic Records, completing the contract. The album would also peak at #1 on the Billboard 200 marking his fifth #1 album. The project would also break a tie with Taylor Swift as it scored a #1 album in each of the past four years.
On September 6, 2022, YoungBoy released Realer 2 as a surprise release, it is presented as a sequel to his December 2018, Realer. Just over a month following the release of Realer 2, YoungBoy released the Juvenile-influenced mixtape, 3800 Degrees which would peak at #12 on the Billboard 200. Two weeks prior to the release of 3800 Degrees, YoungBoy would release yet another mixtape hosted by DJ Drama as a part of his Gangsta Grillz series titled Maโ I Got A Family.
Through Billboard, on October 24, 2022, it was announced that following YoungBoyโs departure from Atlantic Records, beginning 2023, he would release music under a joint venture deal between his own Never Broke Again and Motown Records.

I wonder who gon' ride for me if it go down
And I start to get this feeling like
Who gone be there for my sons the day that I'm not around?
I hope you love me as much as I love you
I ain't mean to break your heart, but baby, that's what thugs do
Nothing in the world, baby I wouldn't do for you
I'ma tell you now I always be there for you
If it go down now I know Baby Joe gon' shoot
If you go broke now they ain't gon' do shit for you
Can't give up now, nigga this the life I choose
Back in 8th grade, I swear I ain't have a thing baby
Since I got money I swear it ain't been the same baby
Got money in my pocket, diamonds in my chain baby
Won't ever hurt again I made through the rain baby
Before the fame I was strapped up on Valley Park with a Glock
I was sellin' them rocks these police stay watchin' steady passing by the block
I created that gang, forever I bang, nigga I'll never stop
I stay in my lane, I'm never gon' change, nigga play and he get popped
I told him record me, I go safari, diamonds wetter than some water
Hellcat not a Charger
Way faster than a 'Rari
I'm turnin up in the party
Celebrating all the shit that I did
I told my momma I'm a gangster I'll never change the way that I live
Back in 8th grade, I swear I ain't have a thing baby
Since I got money I swear it ain't been the same baby
Got money in my pocket, diamonds in my chain baby
I won't ever hurt again, I made through the rain baby
I hope you love me as much as I love you
I ain't mean to break your heart, but baby, that's what thugs do
Nothing in the world, baby I wouldn't do for you
If I die right now, it's so much that I would lose
Out the blue I do some magic like I be Houdini
My diamonds wet they Aquafina like they made in Fiji
I get that Act, I crack the seal, and pour it in some Fiji
I cop a 'Vette, I drop my top, and ask you did you see me
Gone off that molly I'm zooted and booted
Got snake on my collar I tell you this Gucci
I swear that I'm 'bout it, you play I'ma shoot it
I'm a 38 baby I swear that I'm ruthless
Walkin' on stage I'm strapped with a toolie
Long clips nigga I shoot the movie
I know you notice how we come through and do it
Eviction notice, nigga, bet that you movin'
Red dot and headshots for who wanna do me
Homicides, mommas cry, it ain't nothing to it
I tote them choppas, when we slide, you know I'ma shoot it
So many times I coulda died, but you niggas blew it
Back in 8th grade, I swear I ain't have a thing baby
Since I got money I swear it ain't been the same baby
Got money in my pocket, diamonds in my chain baby
I won't ever hurt again, I made through the rain baby
I hope you love me as much as I love you
I ain't mean to break your heart, but baby, that's what thugs do
Nothing in the world, baby I wouldn't do for you
If I die right now, it's so much that I would lose
The song "Solar Eclipse" by YoungBoy Never Broke Again explores the feeling of being alone and vulnerable in the midst of success. The first verse of the song sets the tone with the artist questioning who will come to his aid if things go sideways for him. He then accentuates his vulnerability by questioning who will look out for his children when he's no longer around. This vulnerability is further highlighted by a sense of regret over past actions that may have caused heartbreak to those who care for him.
The second verse of the song delves into his background before he became famous. YoungBoy makes a point to showcase the difficulties he had to endure before he made it big. He recounts his time on the streets selling drugs and being constantly surveilled by the police. He states that his current lifestyle is a reflection of his struggles, and despite appearances, he's still the same person.
The final verse of the song is where the artist makes his power move, asserting that he's not one to be trifled with. He proclaims himself to be a 38 Baby and a ruthless killer, ready to defend himself at all times. The lyrics of the final verse are a declaration of his resilience in the face of adversity, a statement of power from someone determined to make it on his own terms.
Overall, the lyrics of "Solar Eclipse" communicate an artist trying to navigate the complicated road to success while simultaneously acknowledging and overcoming past struggles.
