Lonely Eyes
Young Chris Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Tuesday night crowded bar
Some guy lights a cheap cigar
Bartender yells at him
So he walks out and you walk in
Right through that cloud of smoke
Catcalls and dirty jokes
Scan the room a couple times
Find a seat right next to mine

Lonely eyes
Well, it sure looks like
You just might
Be looking for something
For something, whoa
Look at me
And I think you'll see
Those lonely eyes
Don't have to be alone tonight

They analyze your glass of wine
Roll away a pickup line
Now and then they check your phone
Catch mine and let 'em go
From the little bit I've seen
They're the perfect shade of green
Next time they come my way,
Heaven help me, make 'em stay

Lonely eyes
Well, it sure looks like
You just might
Be looking for something
For something, whoa
Look at me
And I think you'll see
Those lonely eyes
Don't have to be alone tonight

Don't make me pay my tab, catch a cab
Go home and kick myself to sleep tonight
Gimme a sign, just a smile
Baby, I'll be glad to lose myself deep inside
Lonely eyes

Lonely eyes
Sure looks like
You just might
Be looking for something
For something, whoa
Look at me
And I think you'll see
Those lonely eyes
They don't have to be alone tonight

Lonely eyes, you don't have to be alone tonight

Overall Meaning

In Young Chris's song "Lonely Eyes", the first verse talks about a crowded bar on a Tuesday night where a man lights a cheap cigar and the bartender yells at him. The man walks out and then, the subject of the song, the "Lonely Eyes" walk in. The eyes, which are identified as being the perfect shade of green, scan the room before finding a seat next to the singer's.

The chorus says that it looks like the person behind those lonely eyes is looking for something and then calls them out to look at the singer, who thinks they don't have to be alone tonight. In the second verse, the Lonely Eyes' actions are observed as they analyze their drink, roll their eyes at cheesy pickup lines, and occasionally check their phone.

Finally, the singer asks them not to make him pay his tab and go home alone. He's hoping for a sign from them, just a smile, for him to make a move and hopefully spend the night with the Lonely Eyes, so they don't have to be alone anymore.

Overall, "Lonely Eyes" is a song about being attracted to someone in a bar who appears to be alone and possibly looking for something or someone. The singer sees the Lonely Eyes and wants to make a connection with them, offering himself as a possible companion for the night.
