In 2016, the band were invited to support Massive Attack on their UK and European tour after working together on Massive Attack’s single “ Voodoo In My Blood”, which was released in January 2016.
Young Fathers feature 6 tracks on the Trainspotting T2 soundtrack, including “Only God Knows”, written specifically for the film.
In November 2017 the band announced that they had finished work on their third album to be release on Ninja Tune in early 2018.

Lay me down
Do your worst
Go to town
Let me out
Or let me in
You're too late
Once again
You can come a little closer
See what's heathen
Until I see you dressed in blood
Then we even stevens
Shoulda traded it in my past
To save my future
Girl or a boy
I don't wanna confuse yaaah
Border girl
Give, give it up
Oh you're living
You don't have to take, take, take
All you've given
Border girl
Give, give it up
Oh you're living
You don't have to take, take, take
All you've given
Miracle
Send another miracle
Miracle
Send another miracle
Miracle
Send another miracle
Miracle
Send another miracle
Beauty
Skin deep
Peeling
Makes bleed
Always
Leaves me
Crying
Cruelly
Grinning
Do your sinning
All the way to dying
Dig me up
Lay me down
Do your worst
Go to town
You can come a little closer
See what's heathen (Let me out)
Until I see you dressed in blood
Then we even stevens (Or let me in)
Shoulda traded it in my past
To save my future (You're too late)
Girl or a boy
I don't wanna confuse ya (Once again)
(Ahyeeyah)
Border girl
Give, give it up
Oh you're living
(Ahyeeyah)
You don't have to take, take, take
All you've given
(Ahyeeyah)
Border girl
Give, give it up
Oh you're living
(Ahyeeyah)
You don't have to take, take, take
All you've given
(Ahyeeyah)
Border girl
Give, give it up
Oh you're living
(send another miracle)
You don't have to take, take, take
All you've given
(send another miracle)
Border girl
Give, give it up
Oh you're living
(send another miracle)
You don't have to take, take, take
All you've given
(send another miracle)
In the morning I awake
In the morning I escape
And the warning comes too late

The lyrics to Young Fathers's song "Border Girl" touch upon themes of identity, power dynamics, and sacrifice. The opening lines, "Dig me up, lay me down, do your worst, go to town," suggest a feeling of being controlled or manipulated by someone else. The singer desires to be freed or accepted, as expressed in the lines "Let me out, or let me in, you're too late once again." There is a sense of longing for understanding and connection, as well as a fear of confusion and ambiguity, emphasized in the line "Girl or a boy, I don't wanna confuse yaaah."
The chorus revolves around the idea of a "border girl" who doesn't have to constantly give and take, suggesting a release from societal expectations and pressures. The reference to a "miracle" being sent multiple times hints at a desire for something extraordinary to change the situation. The lyrics also explore the complexity of beauty, with lines like "Beauty, skin deep, peeling, makes bleed, always leaves me crying cruelly grinning." This may convey the idea that societal expectations of beauty can be superficial and damaging.
Overall, "Border Girl" presents a narrative of seeking understanding, autonomy, and liberation in a world characterized by power imbalances and societal pressures.

Better Then Normal
This has become one of my all time favorite songs. It’s crazy to me it’s so unknown. It reminds me in some ways of a Gorillaz type of production, and I really love how the song starts so simple and keeps adding one piece at a time until it’s a beautiful whole picture in front of you. It’s lovely and means a lot to me.
