Bulletproof
Young Guns Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Out of time, out of place
Hate the people we've become
In the cold, we embraced
Tell me, where did we go wrong?
Should have known from the start
You'd leave me in the dark
Then I found a spark
So tonight I'll start a fire

You're nothing like I ever knew
Somehow you can't see I'm bulletproof
So I took the long road
Went the distance to the bitter end
Can't you see I'm bulletproof?

I was blind to my fate
Walked the line and now I run
'Cause I see my mistake
Why did I let down my guard?
Should have known from the start
Like a shot right through my heart
I ignite the spark
Just to find out who you are
(Oh)

You're nothing like I ever knew
Somehow you can't see I'm bulletproof
So I took the long road
Went the distance to the bitter end
Can't you see I'm bulletproof?

Take it back
Take it back
You're goddamn right, I'm bitter
Now I'm under attack
You said my light got dimmer
I can't believe I ever loved you
You're goddamn right, I'm bitter
Sometimes we have to face things on our own

You're nothing like I ever knew
Somehow you can't see I'm bulletproof
So I took the long road
Went the distance to the bitter end
Can't you see I'm bulletproof?

So take your best shot
So take your best shot
Is that the best you've got?

Is that the best you've got?
I can't believe I ever loved you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Young Guns’ “Bulletproof” describe a relationship that’s taken a turn for the worse. The couple is “out of time” and “out of place,” and they “hate the people we’ve become.” They’ve grown apart and are no longer compatible, and yet they’re still embracing in the cold. The singer doesn’t understand where they went wrong, and expresses regret about not knowing that the relationship would end badly from the start. However, he’s now found a spark and he's putting his guard back up, starting a fire instead of letting the relationship continue to drag him down. The chorus reveals that he’s now impervious to his lover's attacks and can’t be hurt by them anymore. He’s bulletproof.

The second verse talks about the singer coming to terms with his mistakes in the relationship. He was “blind” to his “fate” and didn’t guard his heart like he should have. This allowed his lover to “shoot” him in the heart like a “shot right through” it. However, he’s now realizing his mistake, and has lit a new spark in order to discover who his lover truly is. He’s not the same person he used to be and he won’t let himself be hurt again.

Wasn't sure what to expect but I genuinely LOVE this song.
I usually lose interest as bands evolve and change their sound but I'm still loving every single song YG put out!
I realize Ones and Zeroes was released late but I can't believe it's already been a year and they're already releasing new music. Not complaining one bit!

When I saw them in October (which was brilliant) Gustav said that they were going to have an album out exactly one year after ones and zeros as payback for being in America for a while, looks like it's going to happen!
This song is damn Good too, great to hear some new stuff from them!
