Their four track debut EP, ‘Mirrors’, has been produced by former SikTh members Dan Weller and Justin Hill (Enter Shikari, Haunts, Gallows), and covers a host of subjects, from party-induced-excess and temptation, to adolescent aspirations and dependency, and all this in little more than 16 minutes. However, it’s a brief blast of promise that should more than whet the appetite for what’s to come from the five-piece and serves as a ringing statement of intent.
A 12-track debut album 'All Our Kings Are Dead' was released on the 21st of July 2010, and was well-received by both critics and fans alike.
With former Johnny Truant drummer Paul Jackson (Alexisonfire, Cancer Bats, The Ghost Of A Thousand) handling artwork duties, and a forthcoming remix of ‘The Weight Of The World’ by Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins’ L’Amour La Morgue project, there’s a distinct British flavour to ‘Mirrors’.
“British music is so healthy right now, the scene here has been building for a long time,” explains singer Gustav Wood, “and to have people from some of the best bands, past and present, helping us out and digging our band is incredible.”
Having clocked up shows alongside the likes of Funeral For A Friend, Lostprophets, The Answer and We Are The Ocean already, and with a relentless touring schedule ahead of them including supporting All Time Low on their UK tour, it’s going to be near impossible to avoid Young Guns in 2011, and on the proof of 'All Our Kings Are Dead' and ‘Mirrors’, we wouldn’t advise even trying.
[1]On October 13th, Young Guns released their new song 'Learn My Lesson' after it was premiered on Zane Lowes Radio 1's show at 7.30pm.

I Want Out
Young Guns Lyrics

And all of our moments pass us by before they begin
And I know I can't deny
The burning in your eyes
I need a little more now
Wage against the dying light
It's burning me tonight 'cause I need it
'Cause if this is love, baby, I want out (oh oh oh oh)
I will light up the sky as we burn it down (oh oh oh oh)
I know you can't doubt it, but let me say
'Cause I know it's better this way
'Cause if this is love, baby, I want out (oh oh oh oh)
All we are is breath against the glass
Just like the ashes of a fire fading fast
Yeah, I know I can't deny
The burning in your eyes
I need a little more now
Will you dance the time left
Is burning me tonight 'cause I need it
'Cause if this is love, baby, I want out (oh oh oh oh)
I will light up the sky as we burn it down (oh oh oh oh)
I know you can't doubt it, but let me say
'Cause I know it's better this way
'Cause if this is love, baby, I want out (oh oh oh oh)
If this is love, baby, I want out
I will light up the sky as we burn it down
'Cause if this is love, baby, I want out (oh oh oh oh)
I will light up the sky as we burn it down (oh oh oh oh)
I know you can't doubt it, but let me say
'Cause I know it's better this way
'Cause if this is love, baby, I want out (oh oh oh oh)
I want out (oh oh oh oh)
I want out (oh oh oh oh)
The lyrics of Young Guns's song "I Want Out" convey a poignant message of disillusionment with love. The song opens with the metaphor, "All we are is leaves in the wind," which indicates that the band members believe that life is short and unpredictable. The next line, "And all of our moments pass us by before they begin," echoes the theme of transience and emphasizes the urgency of making the most out of life. The pre-chorus reveals the singer's inner struggle as he admits, "I know I can't deny the burning in your eyes. I need a little more now. Wage against the dying light. It's burning me tonight 'cause I need it." The singer acknowledges that his desire for love and affection is overpowering, yet he is afraid of being trapped in a cycle of heartbreak and disappointment. The chorus spells out his ultimate decision as he declares, "Cause if this is love, baby, I want out. I will light up the sky as we burn it down. I know you can't doubt it, but let me say 'Cause I know it's better this way."
The second verse opens with the simile, "All we are is breath against the glass just like the ashes of a fire fading fast." This comparison symbolizes the ephemeral nature of human existence and the human desire to leave an enduring legacy. The singer reiterates his inner turmoil in the pre-chorus, "Yeah, I know I can't deny the burning in your eyes. I need a little more now. Will you dance the time left? It's burning me tonight 'cause I need it." The chorus repeats the idea that the singer would rather break free from the shackles of love than stay miserable, but this time with more force, "If this is love, baby, I want out. I will light up the sky as we burn it down."
Overall, "I Want Out" is a potent ode to the human condition of wanting love but being too scared to commit because of the possibility of heartbreak or disappointment. The lyrics may resonate with those who have been in similar situations or have gone through periods of disillusionment.
