Their four track debut EP, ‘Mirrors’, has been produced by former SikTh members Dan Weller and Justin Hill (Enter Shikari, Haunts, Gallows), and covers a host of subjects, from party-induced-excess and temptation, to adolescent aspirations and dependency, and all this in little more than 16 minutes. However, it’s a brief blast of promise that should more than whet the appetite for what’s to come from the five-piece and serves as a ringing statement of intent.
A 12-track debut album 'All Our Kings Are Dead' was released on the 21st of July 2010, and was well-received by both critics and fans alike.
With former Johnny Truant drummer Paul Jackson (Alexisonfire, Cancer Bats, The Ghost Of A Thousand) handling artwork duties, and a forthcoming remix of ‘The Weight Of The World’ by Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins’ L’Amour La Morgue project, there’s a distinct British flavour to ‘Mirrors’.
“British music is so healthy right now, the scene here has been building for a long time,” explains singer Gustav Wood, “and to have people from some of the best bands, past and present, helping us out and digging our band is incredible.”
Having clocked up shows alongside the likes of Funeral For A Friend, Lostprophets, The Answer and We Are The Ocean already, and with a relentless touring schedule ahead of them including supporting All Time Low on their UK tour, it’s going to be near impossible to avoid Young Guns in 2011, and on the proof of 'All Our Kings Are Dead' and ‘Mirrors’, we wouldn’t advise even trying.
[1]On October 13th, Young Guns released their new song 'Learn My Lesson' after it was premiered on Zane Lowes Radio 1's show at 7.30pm.

Young Guns Lyrics

Is it that time again?
Is this the end?
The beat goes on and on, with such sweet grace
But I'm just out of time, I'm out of place
I found rebellion in self destruction (woah)
I need to find a place to lay my head
I walk then I crawl
I'm thankful to be moving at all
Considering all the places, I've been on the way
(I've been on the way)
Some people build towers, I just dig holes,
On my way down again, on my way down
Hey, on my back in the gutter
And I've seen this place before,
How do you make it look so easy
When the wolves are at the door?
Contrition is, a bedfellow of mine,
In my defense I'm wasted, the beat goes on and on
I couldn't stop it even if I tried
I found rebellion in self destruction (woah)
I need to find a place to lay my head
I walk then I crawl,
I'm thankful to be moving at all
Considering all the places I've been on the way
(I've been on the the way)
Some people build towers, I just dig holes,
On my way down again, on my way down
On my way down
I walk then I crawl
I'm thankful to be moving at all
Considering all the places, I've been on the way
(I've been on the way)
I walk then I crawl
I'm thankful to be moving at all
Considering all the places, I've been on the way
In "Towers," Young Guns express themes of self-destruction, desperation, and the search for a place to belong. The song's opening lines evoke a sense of familiarity and nostalgia, as if addressing an old friend. However, the following lines suggest that this is not a happy reunion, but rather more of a final farewell. The singer feels out of time and out of place, making him long for a place to rest his head.
The chorus reveals the singer's internal conflict, as he acknowledges his own tendency towards self-destruction and recklessness. He compares himself to those who build towers, people who have the ability to create something lasting and powerful in the world. The singer, however, feels as though he only digs holes, falling further and further down towards his own destruction.
The lyrics also demonstrate a struggle against outside influences that threaten to tear the singer down. He feels like he's on his back, while others manage to carry on despite their own struggles. There is a sense of regret and acceptance of his own mistakes and failures when he describes contrition as his bedfellow.
This song can resonate with anyone who has struggled with addiction or mental illness. It emphasizes that the battle for recovery is not an easy one, but even when you're down, there is hope that you can keep pushing forward.
