History
Both Simon Katz and Sam Martin were in the band Iglu & Hartly, but after a 2011 hiatus, the two reformed with three of their long-time friends to form Youngblood Hawke. Their name is taken from the Herman Wouk novel of the same name. In October 2011 before landing a record deal with Universal Republic, Youngblood had a residency at The Satellite in Los Angeles. Aside from that, the group has performed at SXSW, playing showcases such as Comedy Central Workaholics showcase and Purevolume House . The band is based in Silverlake, Los Angeles where they are working on their debut album and have worked odd jobs on the side during the recording process. Youngblood Hawke's latest single "We Come Running", has been described by LA Weekly 's Kevin Bronson as showing the quintet's "skills at grabbing hold of the pop jugular vein".Their track "Forever" was included in Starbucks Pick of the Week for September 2012. Before that, they joined the lineup for both Echo Park Rising festival as well as Lobsterfest . Recently, Youngblood Hawke's video for their debut single "We Come Running" was featured on Rollingstone Magazine , "where they play music and scuba dive with sharks in time" in hopes to help promote the conservation of sharks. The band is currently on tour with Passion Pit.
Their music has been described as "maximalist pop."

Youngblood Hawke Lyrics

You're headed to the border with broken hands,
Searching for refuge underneath the sand,
You keep callin' out to the skies.
Yeah you keep crying out to the night.
Yeah you keep crying out to the night
I keep on wishing we all could find the time to,
crossing your mind
We've been waiting for these dreams to feel real for so long,
Now we have 'em in our hands all we have to do is stay strong
Apache heart,
You see there's a fight in every man,
Another road never leading home again,
You keep climbing up to the skies,
Yeah you keep crying out to the night
Yeah you keep crying out at night
I keep on wishing we all could find the time to
See all the visions thats been crossing your mind
You've been sayin' that we've been prayin' for so long
So long
We've been waiting for these dreams to feel real for so long,
Now we have 'em in our hands all we have to do is stay strong
We've been waiting for these dreams for so long,
So long
I'll never wait for days you're living underneath the trees,
And I never got to say that you know what I'm gonna believe,
What I believe in: You've got to pay for the rain that's fallen,
You've got to pay for the way the that we're runnin',
And though I know, I know, shouldn't have waited for the light,
I know, I know, I wouldn't take it
We've been waiting for these dreams to feel real for so long,
Now we have 'em in our hands all we have to do is stay strong
In "Dreams," by Youngblood Hawke, the singer addresses someone with an "apache heart," someone who has suffered and is seeking refuge. The song suggests that this person is crying out for help; the repeated refrain of "crying out to the night" emphasizes their desperation. Despite their pain, however, the singer believes that they possess hope and visions for their future ("all the visions that's been crossing your mind"). The chorus asserts that this person has been waiting a long time for their dreams to become reality, and now that they're within reach, they just have to hold on and persevere.
The lyrics of this song offer a message of perseverance in times of struggle. The singer suggests that despite the challenges, there is always hope for the future. The song also emphasizes the importance of listening to others and recognizing their pain, as the singer stops to acknowledge the struggles of the person they are addressing.
