After spending years working on his craft, Droog finally set the internet ablaze in 2014, releasing a mysterious self-titled project so impressive that certain listeners were literally convinced that he was one of the best to ever do it. Cockamamie conspiracies took over. “A totally fortuitous and unplanned almost-divine stimulus plan” is how he describes it. The Ukrainian-born MC has long since cleared up rumors of who released the mysterious classic, stepping out from the shadows in interviews with outlets like The New Yorker, SPIN, The Village Voice, SiriusXM, and more. After his debut was named one of the top albums of the year by both The New York Times and Rolling Stone, Your Old Droog has gone on to release several more widely acclaimed projects, including PACKS, and It Wasn’t Even Close. He has also collaborated with like-minded peers, including DOOM, El-P, Black Thought, Mach-Hommy, Danny Brown, and Roc Marciano. Even as his buzz grows larger, Your Old Droog remains independent, maintaining full creative control over his music and career.

Agressive Ambience
Droog knows the mainstream is full crony capitalism (payola scam; only
get play if you got dough), saying that he would rather focus on himself
and staying true to the art form (I listened to jazz) than get it
twisted by playing games that dont involve the actual creation of good
art. This being said, I think that Droog and a lot of other underground
artists do not mind that they arent topping the charts, because fame and
fortune bring its own set of problems, and perhaps "games" that you may
not win. The whole track is about control and self improvement.
Restricting your activities so that you can play to your strengths.
For your convienience, here is the latter portion of the VG verse:
2:54
I listened to jazz, read the 7 pillars of zen
Learned ego and pride are the biggest killers of men
They still marvel at the verses when I rap, mom
But it's straight Marvel vs. Capcom
Every time we try to play the game they playing games
Fools is lucky I ain't saying names, bunch of lames
Still running with that payola scam
Need more than a couple of quarters to play your jam
Only get play if you got dough
These dudes like USPA—they not Lo
You know my motto
[Hook]
baylen waterhouse
