Let The Sky Burn
Youth Code Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's not safe to ignore
Your true North's magnetic pull
Pushed to the side
Trial by fire, suicide
So let the sky burn
We've hung our heads for too long
"Here's to the days": when we were young
"Here's to the nights" we came undone
So let the sky burn
We've been ashamed for too long
I believed in love, I believed in us
I believed in hate, I believed in trust
I believed, in nothing… for too long
So let the sky burn
Suicide
The song "Let The Sky Burn" by Youth Code has a powerful and poignant message. The lyrics describe a sense of feeling lost, adrift and directionless despite sensing an inner compulsion towards a higher purpose or goal. The opening line "tears begin to fall" sets the tone for the emotional weight of the song. The next line, "it's not safe to ignore" suggests a sense of urgency and importance to acknowledge the inner voice that is calling. The line "your true North's magnetic pull" speaks to the deep-rooted need for guidance and direction, which cannot be ignored. Despite this inner guidance, the singer feels "pushed to the side," suggesting a sense of isolation, despondency, and neglect.
The chorus, "So let the sky burn, we've hung our heads for too long," speaks to a sense of defiance and determination to break out of the despair and live with courage and purpose. The lines "here's to the days when we were young, here's to the nights we came undone," speak to the nostalgia and longing for better times, but also to the acceptance of the past and the need to move forward. The repeated line "we've been ashamed for too long" speaks to the shame, guilt, and self-doubt that can hold us back, compounded by societal pressures and expectations. Finally, the "suicide" that ends the refrain suggests a sense of surrender but can also be interpreted as a metaphor for letting go of what no longer serves us to make way for growth and transformation.
In conclusion, the lyrics of "Let The Sky Burn" by Youth Code are a powerful call to action to overcome fear, apathy, and self-doubt and embrace a sense of courage, determination, and purpose in life. The song's message is one of hope, urging us to break free of our inner turmoil and connect with our true selves.
