Dead Inside
Youth in Revolt Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Call the doctor
This is a tragedy
A deadly poison
Without a remedy
Intoxicated just a taste
To make it right

Look in the mirror
See what you have become
This monster you created
This war you have begun

Wasting away
In the shame of my mistakes
Crossing these bridges as they burn up into flames

This emptiness
That settled in
I feel it crawl beneath my skin
So dead inside
(So dead inside)

Nightmares infecting me
Making it hard to dream
It's getting harder just to breathe
Give me something to believe

Something to believe

Not sure how much I can endure
And death is knocking at my door
But I'm still swallowing the very thing
That's killing me
Watch my body hit the floor

And when your world comes crashing down
There won't be anyone around
To save you from yourself

Open your eyes
Cause this life is a suicide
Make up your mind
You know this isn't your time to die
You'll say
Where did it all go wrong?

When you wake up to find
That everything you love is gone

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Youth in Revolt's song Dead Inside speak of a person who is struggling with addiction and its consequences. The song starts off by calling for help from a doctor, as the singer feels that they are in a toxic situation without any possible cure. The lines "Intoxicated just a taste, To make it right" suggest that the singer is turning to the substance that they are addicted to in order to feel better, despite knowing that it is harmful to them.

The next set of lyrics speaks of the consequences of the singer's actions, as they look in the mirror and see the monster that they have become. They are filled with shame for their mistakes and are crossing bridges that are burning behind them, suggesting that they are not able to fix the damage that has been done. The line "Wasting away, In the shame of my mistakes" highlights the guilt and helplessness that the singer is feeling.

The chorus of the song continues to highlight the singer's feelings of emptiness and hopelessness, as they are "dead inside" and are being haunted by nightmares. They are struggling to find any meaning or purpose in life and are desperate for something to believe in. The song ends with a warning to those who may be going through a similar situation, urging them to open their eyes and realize that they have the power to overcome their addiction and take control of their life.

I'm a sucker for bands with a good sound and higher pitched lead singers in love with this band 😍

Emma Jacobs

Same XD. I'm guessing you like sleeping with sirens then?

Rahzia

Emma Jacobs yep!!! And Don't forget PTV and As it is lol

Rashotcake

I really dislike high pitched voices in bands

Emma Jacobs

Rashotcake I know a lot of people who don't like it either. I'm assuming you don't like Youth In Revolt then. What bands do you listen to?

Rashotcake

+Awkward Em bring me the horizon, system of a down, blink-182, story so far, a day to remember, citizen, arctic monkeys. I know blink-182 has a high pitched voice singing in some songs but it's not high pitched the way pierce the veil, sleeping with sirens and youth in revolt is. I try to listen to bands people in my age group listen to so I'll be more likely to meet someone with the same preferences

TheEnlightenShadow

I literally can't wait to see them live on Warped. I'm definitely fucking shit up during that last breakdown. \../

Rainbow Pikachu 47

I found out about them through Punk Goes Pop then I searched them up and heard Love Is A Liar's Game and I've been listening to their songs and loving them since that and then Alex Ramos one of their guitarists followed me on twitter and I am now emotionally attached to this band
