Swept Away
Yukka Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All this time I stayed out of sight
I started wondering why
- what a shame -
As though I had something to fear
Didn't expect you this year
- but what a name -
Now I've seen the roses in bloom
and I've tasted hours of doom
Didn't expect you so soon
and even though I'm the same
you've joined me in my game
I hope you'll stand my sketches of pain

Baby can you hold me a little more
'Cause I don't want to be swept away
The need for you is getting stronger every day
You've got me swept away

Like a ship that's off course
I feel kind of lost without you here
A trip down memory lane
It's always the same
Ends with missing you again
Guess what I'm trying to say
is that I'd like you to stay another day

Baby that thing you do
You do too good
You've got me swept away
Not a day goes by
that I don't try
But it's no use
You've got me swept away

and that's what I'm all about
I cannot live without you

Overall Meaning

In "Swept Away," the singer Yukka reflects on their life and love. They have stayed out of sight for some time, but now they are wondering why they did that. They never expected their love to come back to them so soon, and they are taken aback by the roses in bloom and the hours of doom they have experienced. They hope that their love will stand the sketches of pain they live with every day. The chorus expresses the need for the love to stay with them and not let them be swept away by the storms of life.

The second verse describes the feeling of being off course without the love. A trip down memory lane reminds them of the missing love, and they wish that the love would stay another day. The bridge expresses the intense attraction the singer feels for the love, and how they cannot live without them. They have been swept away by the love, and it is what they are all about.

Overall, the song is a reflection on love, pain, and loss. The lyrics show a desire to hold onto the love and not be swept away by the challenges of life. The singer's affectionate and desperate tone pairs well with the song's slow tempo and synth melody, creating a melancholic but sweet atmosphere.

Hi Audry - thanks for your comment and excellent question!
You may be able to tell if it is overwatered by gently pressing your finger into the compost if it is wet then that could be too wet.
I am not sure that I would be in a hurry to repot it yet as that can cause even more stress, the key is to allow the compost to dry out ... a couple of questions ...
Where do you live?
Is the plant outside or inside
Is the pot stood inside another pot, or stood in a saucer?
In my experience the original trunk doesn't grow taller, but the new shoots develop into 'trunks' after many years ...they can get several feet tall.
Hope this helps?
Thanks
Roger

Hi there, thank you for this video! I’m having a slightly different issue with my yucca. It was thriving in a garden room until our recent cold snap in the UK. I wasn’t able to check on it for a few days as the path was so icy and when I did it was drooping so badly and the newer section at the very top was squidgy.

I brought it into the house and have placed it by the window. I also cut off the squidgy section at the top (not sure if that was the right thing to do!) I also repotted as the weight of the dropping top leaves had pulled the whole plant to the side. The remaining leaves are still looking very sad 3 days later and feel limp. The main trunk and older offshoots are firm.

Is my poor plant done for or do I just need to be patient with it?

Roger Crookes

Ah Laura, you have our sympathies!
I would keep on cutting out any soft tissue and stem until you have firm stems .. even if they have no leaves left … it may take several months but there is a chance that in spring the firm stems will grow new shoots and you can start again.
Try not to give the plant too much water especially as it has been reported because without roots in the fresh compost to suck out the water it can get too wet and cause root rot …
Hope this helps?
Good luck keep us posted with any progress please 👍

@Roger Crookes thanks so much Roger. This is really helpful! I’ll try these tips and hopefully can nurse it back to health. Will update with any progress!

How's your yucca doing now?

Roger Crookes

@Prevalent A hi thanks for your comment, unfortunately it wasn’t my plant, I took it home to work on it, and then put it back into the office I had borrowed it from … the office was completely revamped and redecorated some time later and the recovering yucca was ‘lost’ in the process … 😊

Hey Robert, great video! Actually, I was hoping you could help. I have an outdoor yucca that has a few dried-out leaves like in your video but not as many. I also noticed one of these dried-out leaves has dark spots. I can't tell if it has some sort of infection or if it's just dried out since I live in a very hot climate. It has 3 little trunks but only 1 of them has these very few dried leaves, it is not directly facing the sun since there are buildings around my area that block it but we get indirect sunlight. I water it every few days and the water slowly drains out a little from the bottom, I checked the roots for rot but there isn't any. I can't tell if I'm overwatering it or underwatering, my climate is pretty hot and we still have summer weather which is why I water it every few days or when the soil feels dry. What should I do? Also, some of the healthy leaves have brown tip outlines, what would your recommendation be?

Roger Crookes

Hi - thanks for your interesting comment / question ... it is raining raining and raining here now so could do with some of your hot sunny weather ... if you could send some over here please!?
I am guessing that your plant is in a pot? if so the watering is more important than when the plant is growing in the ground ... but it sounds like you are doing it about right - not watering all the time so that the soil dries out a little is good ... regular checking is best - and it sounds like that is what you are doing? well done
As for the brown leaves / brown outlines ... I am not sure but I have seen this on my outdoor Yuccas (we have a different hardier variety we can grow outside in the UK) and it often has brown / yellow spots on the leaves and the older leaves go yellow / brown and I just cut them off ... if the new baby leaves are looking good and green then the plants is probably happy ... I have sen yuccas in other warm countries on holiday and they often have marks / spots on the leaves.
Maybe think about giving the plant some fertilizer in your spring ... which country are you living in?

Sad it was so badly neglected. I have two growing indoors, one has five stalks, the other four.

Pauline

I have an indoor yucca plant that looked exactly like that but I was making sure that I water it regularly but not too much, it looked healthy up until the beginning of winter so I dont know 😪. I ended up repotting it and was scared maybe it had root rot or something. Hopefully my yucca plant survives !!

Roger Crookes

Hi Pauline - thanks for your comment, if you are in the UK the only problem with repotting is the danger of overwatering while the roots haven't grown into the new compost - so I would only give a little water for the next month or two - once we get into spring the roots will more quickly grow into the fresh compost and you should get more new leaf growth too - I hope there is a happy ending ... please keep us posted, thanks!
