Mountains
Yuna Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I wish I meant something to you
Like you did to me

I wish I could stay as new
As when you first saw me

Oh my
Head is tight from just tryna hide my views
Oh when
I keep trying my best just keep you

Place me in the corner
You're such a heart
So that you remember
Baby when I'm gone...

[Chorus]
While we're still having fun
Well I'm still waiting
(Waiting for the mountains to fall)(x2)

Baby when I am gone
You were something
(Waiting for the mountains to fall)(x2)

I'm not as smart as your books
But I know how to look
Out for you...

I come with the head and the heart
Being using it from the start

And my
Brain is starting to suffering b'cos of you
Still
I've been trying my best just to please you

Place me in the corner
You're such a heart
So that you remember
Baby when I'm gone...

[Chorus]
While we're still having fun
Well I'm still waiting
(Waiting for the mountains to fall)(x2)

Baby when I am gone
You were something
(Waiting for the mountains to fall)(x2)

Place me in the corner
You're such a heart
So that you remember
Baby when I'm gone...

[Chorus]
While we're still having fun
Well I'm still waiting
(Waiting for the mountains to fall)(x2)

Baby when I am gone

You were something
(Waiting for the mountains to fall)(x2)

Overall Meaning

The song "Mountains" by Yuna is a melancholic ballad about unrequited love and the painful feeling of fading away from someone's life as they move on. In the beginning of the song, Yuna laments the fact that she wishes she could mean as much to the person as they did to her. She remains hopeful, however, that she can still be new and fresh in their eyes, despite her growing feelings for them. The chorus repeats the lyric "waiting for the mountains to fall" as a metaphor for the unlikelihood of the person ever reciprocating her feelings. The second verse talks about how she may not be intellectually on par with this person, but she knows how to take care of them and watch out for them. The repetition of the line "place me in the corner, you're such a heart, so that you remember, baby when I'm gone" reflects a desire for the person to realize what they have in her before it's too late.

There's an overall sense of sadness and resignation in the lyrics of "Mountains," but it's also a moving tribute to the complicated feeling of loving someone who doesn't love you back. It's almost as though Yuna is trying to make herself indispensable to this person, but it's a hopeless endeavor. The song builds to an emotional and raw crescendo, with Yuna's vocals soaring over simple piano and drumbeats. The final repetition of "waiting for the mountains to fall" becomes a desperate plea, a final attempt to get this person to see her worth before they're both lost to each other forever.
