hope for the underrated youth
Yungblud Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If I left today
Would you wait for me or would you throw us all away?
Like the magazines say
Should I call right away?
Cut all of my hair off, and change my second name?
From a juvenile state

And just take my heart out
That'd make it better
I won't be sorry
Better late than never
Just take my heart out
That'd make it better
Hidin' all my feelings but I know that I'm not dreaming

'Cause there's hope for the underrated youth
And I'm so far from telling you the truth
'Cause you keep on pulling me down, pulling me down, pulling me down
Yeah there's hope for the underrated youth

Every day is an episode
I pick and mix with self-control
My head won't let me go like if I died you'd never know
I made friends with the dark parts that are inside of my mind
I tie them up to the commas back in juvenile rhymes
And my eyes are about to blow
But that's all part of this freak show
My personality got fucked up by the Adderall
Got called an alien for bein' myself
I ain't got the patience to be someone else

So just take my heart out
That'd make it better
I won't be sorry
Better late than never
Just take my heart out
That'd make it better
Hidin' all my feelings but I know that I'm not dreaming

'Cause there's hope for the underrated youth
And I'm so far from telling you the truth
'Cause you keep on pulling me down, pulling me down, pulling me down
Yeah there's hope for the underrated youth

If I die, would you cry?
Would you come and bury me alive?
If I die, would you cry?
Would you come and bury me alive?
If I die, would you cry?
Would you come and bury me alive?
If I die, would you cry?
Would you come and bury me alive?
(Would you come and bury me alive?)

There's hope for the underrated youth
I'm so far from telling you the truth
Yeah, there's hope for the underrated youth
And I'm so far from telling you the truth
You keep on pulling me down, pulling me down, pulling me down
Yeah there's hope for the underrated youth
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Overall Meaning

Yungblud's song "Hope For The Underrated Youth" is a powerful call-to-arms for young people who feel like they don't fit in or aren't valued by society. The opening verse asks a poignant question about whether or not someone would wait for the singer if they left, or if they'd be thrown away like a disposable object. The line "like the magazines say" refers to the unrealistic and harmful beauty standards perpetuated by mainstream media. The singer then contemplates changing their appearance and identity before ultimately concluding that taking their heart out would be the best solution to their problems.

The chorus of the song asserts that despite feeling marginalized or misunderstood, there is always hope for young people who are underrated or underestimated. The singer acknowledges that they are not yet ready to reveal their full truth to someone else, but there is still a glimmer of hope for a better future.

The second verse delves deeper into the singer's struggles with mental health and substance abuse. They describe their mind as a dark and chaotic place, but rather than rejecting those parts of themselves, they choose to embrace them and channel them into their art. The line about Adderall highlights the pressures that are put on young people to succeed and achieve, and the harmful coping mechanisms that can arise as a result.

Overall, "Hope For The Underrated Youth" is a powerful anthem for anyone who feels like they don't fit in or aren't valued by society. Its message of hope and resilience is especially important for young people who are struggling to find their place in the world.

YUNG BLUD... you probably won’t read this but if you ever do...this song is a prime example of why your life and I said YOUR LIFE is very valuable!

What you just did here is so inspiring. This one is my favorite of yours! I just made up my mind!

Young people battle feeling worthless, and being told that they are “no good,” or told that they are corrupt, or things happen that rob them of their since security, and it hurts! Then on top of that what’s going on with the riots!

The truth is that you can speak things into existence if you have faith. You just said,” there IS hope for the underrated youth!” I don’t think you understand just what you are speaking into existence!

You are speaking life and hope to young people that battle depression, things people say, they go through things that leave them traumatized, they loose people that are important to them, and listen to hurtful Thoughts their own minds say. Your mind can hurt you if you listen to it sometimes!

Standing ovation from my living room. When you don’t feel like people will remember you after your time... it’s not true! I’ll remember!!! I am inspired! You have to live so you can make more inspiring songs like this one so that some kid who is hurting can understand that there is hope for them!!!!👏 🥀 👏 🥀 👏 🥀 Beautiful!!!

It’s a visual metaphor for how society punishes the entirety of the “underrated youth” for the mistakes of a few.
Beautiful.
