Digital Love
Yves Klein Blue Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

What makes your tapping toes so much better than mine?
When the hours are lonesome, is it all that you think about?
We're all fingers and toes, shoulders and spines:
But you're all eyes at the moment, is there more to your sight?
Jesus man, there's high stakes! Aren't you concerned that when
The dopamine's gone there's nothing left of you?
That don't matter to you, I guess it's Friday night...
I'll come out with you too.
How could you possibly know at your first taste,
Of the strength of its
Hold or the length of a day?
You were young, you were bored,
It was something to try? Wasn't it?
Well you're all eyes at the moment,
Is that pleasure of fright?
Jesus man there's high stakes!
Aren't you concerned that when the dopamine's
Gone there's nothing left of you?
Well that don't matter to you, I guess it's Friday night...
I'll go out with you too;
We'll get some Digital Love until our faces are numb.
There's no greater evil than it.
Jesus man there's high stakes!
Aren't you concerned that when the dopamine's
Gone there's nothing left of you?
Well you can hardly refuse now that it's Tuesday night,
Yeah it's not up to you now that the Digital Love,
Has gone and swallowed you whole.

Digital Love.
(There's no greater evil than it.)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Yves Klein Blue's song "Digital Love" are intriguing and go beyond the surface level interpretation of mere fascination with technology. The lyrics depict a conversation between two individuals, one of whom seems to be caught up in the allure of "Digital Love," while the other is somewhat wary of its potentially harmful effects. The opening lines, "What makes your tapping toes so much better than mine? When the hours are lonesome, is it all that you think about?" suggest a certain degree of envy and curiosity about the appeal of digital technology over traditional methods of communication. The use of the metaphor of fingers, toes, shoulders, and spines emphasizes the physicality of human beings in contrast to the digital realm that seeks to transcend physical boundaries.

The chorus, "Jesus man, there's high stakes! Aren't you concerned that when the dopamine's gone there's nothing left of you? Well, that don't matter to you, I guess it's Friday night...I'll come out with you too", further highlights the contrast between the carefree, hedonistic person caught up in the world of digital technology and the more thoughtful, introspective individual who understands the potential dangers. The "high stakes" referred to here may be the dangers of becoming addicted to digital technology, leading to a loss of self and a blurring of the boundaries between the virtual and real worlds. The final lines, "Yeah it's not up to you now that the Digital Love, Has gone and swallowed you whole", imply that once we become seduced by the allure of digital technology, it becomes very difficult to step away from it and regain control of our lives.

Sure the body was an instrument, like a paintbrush, but that does not detract from the expressive beauty inherent in a body, or brush, in motion. Look how Klein hardly gives any directions rather letting the models follow a few given instructions and then make the work themselves. Listen to the testiment of one of the participants. Bravo Tate. Like all your films they are too short but beautifully made.

@kawakami789 Disagree. Yves Klein's Anthropometries was ground breaking for conceptual and performance art practices. Yes, art making can be stretched to the absurd, but can't discount all absurd results as fraudulent. Go back to the Dada movement. What about Kasimir Malevich's white on white geometric paintings? All of these art practices or maybe, experiments, advanced modern art and helped it to develop and evolve. Without new techniques and approaches, art would remain repetitive and stagnant. Matisse's critics spoke like you...earlier, Van Gogh died a pauper, he couldn't give his "rough" paintings away. Pollock, Rothko were two Giants in abstract painting innovations. Please broaden your vision, for we are in the 21st century, no?

Klein is the artist who inspired a artist named Piero Manzoni to sell cans of his own poop as art. After seeing an exhibit of Klein’s multiple canvases of blue paint he was convinced that an artist could sell anything as long as the artist was popular with the wealthy. So he pooped in multiple tin cans and called the “art pieces” “Artist’s Shit” and sold them. A can of his poop sold to Sotheby’s for $30k and that was considered a discount as his other cans of poo sold for much more. This is not a joke it’s 100% true. Hope this changes people’s feelings about artists like Klein, pollock, and Rothko as they are all frauds.

I love this, and r e s p e c t is important. My friend brought me here.

I hate this, and do not respect it. It's not art, it's disgusting public degeneracy, and all the people involved should be hanged.
