The musicians gained initial popularity in 2016, with the release of Ao Vivo em São José do Rio Preto, which contained the song "Seu Police". In 2018, the duo became one of the biggest country names in Brazil through the projects Acústico and Esquece o Mundo Lá Fora, which brought together songs such as "Status que Eu não Quero", "Drink na Ferida", "Notification Preferred" and " Largado às Traças", which was one of the main Brazilian successes of the year. In the following years, Zé Neto & Cristiano released Por Mais Beijos ao Vivo (2020) and Chaaama (2021). The duo's most recent work is Tarja Preta (2022).
Throughout their career, Zé Neto & Cristiano received nominations for several awards, including the Troféu Imprensa and the Latin Grammy, also becoming one of the most commercially successful country duos in Brazil.
