As with many musicians back in his younger days, he was first influenced by rock and roll; however, at the age of 20, his music took a more Northeastern Brazilian approach (forro, folk). Zé Ramalho's lyrics however, are very influenced by the socio-economic difficulties faced by the average Brazilian.
In 1975, he recorded his first album, Paêbirú along with Lula Côrtes through the label Rozenblit. Today the copies from this very rare vinyl are highly-priced in the international collector's market.

Inventar objetos
Pela esfinge
Quando era mulher
Ave de prata
Veneno de fogo
Vaga-lume do mar
Tantas trevas e luz
E cada coisa perdida
Perdidamente Pode se apaixonar
Pela última vida
Poucos amigos Hão de te procurar
Como é o silêncio
E nesse momento tudo deve calar
Numa história
Que venha do povo
O juízo final
Como é o silêncio
E nesse momento tudo deve calar
Numa história
Que venha do povo
O juízo final
É muito mais do que mata
Como é o silêncio
Como é o silêncio
The lyrics of "Ave de Prata" by Zé Ramalho are highly abstract and full of metaphors, making it difficult to pin down a clear interpretation of the song's message. However, based on a careful reading of the lyrics, one interpretation could be that the song is about the complex and mysterious nature of life and the universe.
The opening lines of the song suggest that life is much more than what it appears to be on the surface. The references to darkness ("mata"), death ("morrem"), and animal instincts ("fera", "bicho") hint at the savage and primal nature of life. However, the subsequent lines introduce the idea that there is more to life than mere survival of the fittest. The image of a "semente da água" ("water seed") and "mistérios da luz" ("mysteries of light") suggest that there is a deeper, more spiritual dimension to existence that cannot be explained by science alone.
The rest of the song is similarly cryptic, with references to invented objects, a sphinx who was once a woman, and a "juízo final" ("final judgement") that is "uma história que venha do povo" ("a story that comes from the people"). In the end, the song seems to be both a celebration of the richness and complexity of life, and a recognition of the limits of human understanding.
