As with many musicians back in his younger days, he was first influenced by rock and roll; however, at the age of 20, his music took a more Northeastern Brazilian approach (forro, folk). Zé Ramalho's lyrics however, are very influenced by the socio-economic difficulties faced by the average Brazilian.
In 1975, he recorded his first album, Paêbirú along with Lula Côrtes through the label Rozenblit. Today the copies from this very rare vinyl are highly-priced in the international collector's market.

Vem lavando desde gases do espaço
The lyrics of Chuva Pesada by Zé Ramalho describe the approaching storm clouds and the anticipation of the rain that is about to pour down. The singer of the song is observant of the changes in the weather and excited about the rainfall that is to come. They suggest that the rain is different from any other rain, even like one that was once described in a forbidden book. The rainfall is said to wash away everything from space gases to the most basic creature on earth, and its force is strong enough to clear obstacles from the mind. The singer expresses a desire for the rain to come quickly and for everyone to enjoy it, running outside to get wet and be cleansed by its power.
At its core, Chuva Pesada is a celebration of nature and its ability to cleanse and transform the world around us. The song has a timeless quality to it, as it speaks to the human fascination with rain and the beauty and power of this natural phenomenon. The use of vivid imagery and metaphorical language paints a picture of the approaching storm and creates a sense of anticipation for the listener.
