Z-RO was born Joseph Wayne McVey IV in Houston's South Park neighborhood on January 19, 1977.[5] At age six his mother died, and he was shuttled from household to household in search of stability, eventually settling in the Ridgemont area, a middle-class suburb in Missouri City in Southwest Houston.[5] When Z-Ro reached his late teens he was unemployed and resorted to drug dealing and hustling on the streets.[5] According to Z-Ro, listening to the music of 2Pac, Geto Boys, Street Military, K-Rino and Klondike Kat inspired him to work harder for his goal of leaving the streets.[5] Z-Ro discovered his talent of freestyle rapping and after going through a couple of recording studios to make a demo,[5] the CEO of a local label discovered and signed him.
Z-Ro released his critically acclaimed Rap-a-Lot debut titled The Life of Joseph W. McVey.[5][6] The record was a huge success and helped expand Z-Ro's and Bobby Craig's fan base beyond the South.[5] In 2005, Z-Ro released Let the Truth Be Told, which was well received.[5] Z-Ro's 2006 album I'm Still Livin' was released while he was imprisoned for drug possession, to positive reviews.[7][8] It was called "a great album... powerful" but "relentlessly bleak" by The Village Voice[7] and "one of the best rap albums to come out of Houston" by the Houston Chronicle.[9] In 2010 he released the album titled Heroin, which was followed by an album titled Meth in 2011 and then Angel Dust in 2012.
Z-Ro released his first EP under The Mo City Don titled Tripolar on August 25, 2013 via One Deep Ent.[2] Z-Ro then followed up with The Crown in June 2014.[10] In February 2015, Z-Ro released his first proper studio album in three years, titled Melting the Crown.
In 2016, Z-Ro released Drankin & Drivin in August[11] and Legendary in November under his label One Deep Entertainment.

Top notch hoes get the most not the lesser
Top notch hoes get the most not the lesser
Top notch hoes get the most not the lesser
Trash like the fuck with 40 dollars in the club
Top notch hoes get the most not the less
Top-top notch hoes get the most not the less
Top-top notch hoes get the most not the lesser
I stay in pimp mode, my fifty zip-codes, like pimpin' pen
Gotta three hundred inno prenazo Bentley or Benz
I be feeding you chicken dinner it's time for you to win
I got room for one more horse in my stable you should come in
Trash like the fuck with 40 dollars in the club
I be wearing diamonds out here you can't fuck with us
I know you wondering what I been doing about but you know what it was
Hopping out the dollar signs, we don't need no drugs
Top notch hoes get the most not the lesser
You goin end up on the stresser
Ghetto entertainment, rap-a-lot, bg and wrecka
I'm a put on mo' money if were together
[Chorus]
My momma used to tell me 'bout these
Really gayed ass bitches in these streets
I need direction baby, I'm about protection baby
And it's just you and me no need to start investing baby
'cause I don't want'cha body, I want'cha body brane
I never been a gigolo baby I'm about that change
Catch me in that candy blue thang, and I'm in the turning lane
I don't fuck with reggie miller with designer doeja burning, man
I'm 'bout that screwston, texas, most city in my block
I be passing every section and I can kick it at any spot
We moving behind tent and if the coppers harass
Man, I better my mother with j and put my foot back on the gas
[Chorus]
Sunday morning I'm pulling out my bitch, I'm looking good
Nothing but diamonds around my neck and around my wrist I'm looking good (what it is, what it is)
Double dressed tailor made, I'm shaughed down to the flo'
And it don't matter if you step on my we-tip shoes,
'cause I'm a just go buy me some mo' (what it is, what it is)
Huh, look homie I'm feeling larger than life
That's because I'm able to provide for my daughter tonight
I went to sleep on the bitch, but I woke up on the king size
Now everyday of my life I see so many green guys
[Chorus]
In Z-Ro's song "Top Notch," the artist speaks about his luxurious lifestyle and his preference for high-class women. He opens the song by saying that "top notch hoes get the most, not the lesser," emphasizing his preference for high-class women over those who only have $40 in the club. He brags about his possessions, including his pimping car and his diamond jewelry. He notes that he has room for one more horse in his stable and invites women to come in. He compares himself with other rappers and emphasizes that he and his crew don't need drugs to enjoy life. The chorus of the song is repeated multiple times and emphasizes Z-Ro's preference for high-class women.
Later in the song, Z-Ro talks about the advice his mother gave him about women and his desire for a woman with a good head on her shoulders. Still, he emphasizes that he's focused on the money and not interested in investing in a relationship. He emphasizes his love for Texas and its music scene and notes that he's able to provide for his daughter. He ends the song by bragging about his wealth and the green that he sees every day.
