Z-STAR live shows are quite simply, unforgettable. Zee's presence onstage ignites the audience with an energy that is infectious. She can be still as a slow burning candle or as wild as a Molotov. The deep raspy blue tones of this Trinidadian troubadour, flow effortlessly through self-penned evergreens, vivid and beautifully expressed within a dynamic emotive sound.
From the first strum of her acoustic guitar to the last note she sings, you get the feeling that you’ve just experienced something very special.
Born in East-London to Trinidadian parents, her passion for music is a family affair. Her uncles Michael Timothy and Steve Nichol (Loose Ends) are both top UK musicians. Zee’s father was a bass musician and her late mother ‘Schultzi’ bought her first piano and taught her the ropes. However it is her grandfather Al Timothy who wrote the hit single “Kiss Me Honey Honey Kiss Me” for Shirley Bassey whom Zee has most in common with…a flamboyant talent for theatrics and improvisation.
Zee’s first three albums, Voodoo Dragon Risin (VDR Records), Who Loves Lives (EMI) and Masochists & Martyrs (Muthastar) were released to great acclaim. Over the years her music has been championed by global Radio Stations; UK BBC Radio 1, LA’s KCRW, Radio Nova in Paris and Radio DJ Italy. Summer Rain
Z-Star Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
So many years I won't let you go
Its so obsessive of me regressive of me
But I need you right now like the summer rain
If not for you then who will I bleed for
So many years to open up that door
Its so obsessive of me regressive of me
Some say the truth is so cold baby
Some say the truth is so cold baby
But I need you right now like the summer rain
If not for you then who will I bleed for
Oh first love how breaks your dawn
Its so obsessive of me regressive of me
When I need you right now like the summer rain
Some say the truth is so cold baby
Some say the truth is so cold baby
But I need you right now like the summer rain
I need you right now like the summer rain
The lyrics to Z-Star's "Summer Rain" depict a person who is deeply in love with a memory of someone from their past. The singer acknowledges that their attachment to this person is obsessive and regressive, as they continue to hold onto them even after so many years. However, they cannot help but feel a strong need for this person, comparing their desire to the refreshing feeling of summer rain.
The line "If not for you then who will I bleed for" highlights the depth of the singer's feelings, suggesting that they have not been able to find anyone else who affects them in the same way. The repetition of "it's so obsessive of me regressive of me" further emphasizes the singer's self-awareness of their intense attachment to this memory. The final repeated line "some say the truth is so cold baby" could be interpreted in different ways, either as a reflection of the singer's fear of facing reality without this memory, or as a commentary on the difficulty of letting go of a past love.
Overall, "Summer Rain" is a poignant and emotive expression of romantic nostalgia, capturing the bittersweet feeling of holding onto a memory that cannot be fully relived.
