Funny
ZEDD Lyrics

The curtains are closed now
Nothing to see
But a dozen dying roses at our feet
Your timing is perfect
Ironic to me
Showing up the moment that you shouldn't be

Last time I checked
You're the one that left
Last words you said
That you couldn't care less

It's funny how you miss me more than you could ever love me
How you couldn't give me everything and now you want it from me
Yeah, it's funny how it's different now that I got somebody
Yeah it's funny
Ooh

Yeah it's funny, funny, funny, how you answer, answer, answer
'Cause his lips seem, lips seem, lips seem, both my hands are on his body
Yeah it's funny how it's different now that I got somebody
Yeah it's funny
Ooh

Sending a message
Through mutual friends
It's like I'm talking to you using them
You heard I was happy
And I heard you're not
I guess freedom didn't free you like you thought

Last time I checked
You're the one that left
Last words you said
That you couldn't care less

It's funny how you miss me more than you could ever love me
How you couldn't give me everything and now you want it from me
Yeah, it's funny how it's different now that I got somebody
Yeah it's funny
Ooh

Yeah it's funny, funny, funny, how you answer, answer, answer
'Cause his lips seem, lips seem, lips seem, both my hands are on his body
Yeah it's funny how it's different now that I got somebody
Yeah it's funny
Ooh

It's funny how you miss me more than you could ever love me
How you couldn't give me everything and now you want it from me
Yeah, it's funny how it's different now that I got somebody
Yeah it's funny (yeah it's funny)
Ooh

Yeah, it's funny how you're calling couldn't answer if I wanted
'Cause his lips are on my lips and both my hands are on his body
Yeah it's funny how it's different now that I got somebody
Yeah it's funny
Ooh

Yeah it's funny, funny, funny, how you answer, answer, answer
'Cause his lips seem, lips seem, lips seem, both my hands are on his body
Yeah, it's funny how it's different now that I got somebody
Yeah it's funny
Ooh

Who's laughing now?
Who's laughing now?
Ooh

Who's laughing now?

Who's laughing now?
Ooh

Overall Meaning

The song "Funny" by Zedd features lyrics that speak to the sense of liberation and empowerment that comes with moving on from a past love. The opening lines set the scene for a mourning of sorts, with the singer looking at dying roses and closed curtains – a physical representation of the relationship that has ended. The juxtaposition of these heavy images with the ironic timing of the ex-lover's reappearance signals that the singer is no longer weighed down by the sadness of the breakup.

Throughout the song, the singer highlights the many contradictions and ironies of the ex-lover's actions. They left the singer, expressed their lack of care about the relationship, and yet still miss them more than they could ever love them. The ex also seemingly desires the love and attention they couldn't give to the singer, now that they have someone else. Furthermore, the ex's attempt to reconnect through mutual friends only emphasizes the distance that has grown between them. By the end of the song, the singer is clearly at a point of triumph over their past relationship, laughing at the absurdity of the situation and looking to the future.

Overall, "Funny" is a cathartic exploration of the many ways love can be complicated and confusing. The lyrics portray a relatable experience of post-breakup growth, and the production adds to the defiant tone – with driving bass and infectious hooks that are sure to get stuck in your head.

I miss these types of songs from the EDM artists. It just overall sounds different, both melody and vocals. It reminds me of summer in 2010s and songs from that era. Crazy to realize the 10s is in the past now.
