She grew up listening to her Dad write and sing the blues and started performing with him in his blues bands when she was a kid. She fell in love with the sincerity of Etta, the soul of Muddy and the power of Big Mama. When she got older she started writing hooks for and performing with local rappers from Eugene. She fell in love with hip-hop, with its authenticity. Now she's married to em both. DIRTY SHINE!

ZZ Ward Lyrics

Broken promises, burning flames
Frozen hearts in a lover′s grave
God knows, darling, god knows I gave
Don't tell me she didn′t mean nothing (whoa)
Can't take back that bad you did to me (whoa)
Say goodbye, goodbye to everything (whoa)
We′re ghosts, and I′m dancing on her grave
Woo-ooh, woo woo-ooh
Woo-ooh, woo woo-ooh
Woo-ooh, woo woo-ooh
I'm dancing on her grave
Scared forever, you were my life
Boy, your ring up on my left five
I got truth that cuts like a knife
Fool me once, you won′t fool me twice
Don't tell me she didn′t mean nothing (whoa)
Can't take back that bad you did to me (whoa)
Say goodbye, goodbye to everything (whoa)
We′re ghosts, d-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo
We're ghosts, and I'm dancing on her grave
Woo-ooh, whoop whoop-ooh
Woo-ooh, whoop whoop-ooh
Woo-ooh, whoop whoop-ooh
I′m dancing on her grave
Woo-ooh, whoop whoop-ooh
Woo-ooh, whoop whoop-ooh
Woo-ooh, whoop whoop-ooh
We′re ghosts, and I'm dancing
Thirty days and nights stayed
I′d be staring at your phone (whoa)
Lying to myself like it's okay you let me down
Used to be like us against the world, but baby, now
You and I, we′re just six underground
Got me singing
Don't tell me she didn′t mean nothing (whoa)
Can't take back that bad you did to me (whoa)
Say goodbye, goodbye to everything (whoa)
We're ghosts, d-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo
We′re ghosts, and I′m dancing on her grave
Woo-ooh, whoop whoop-ooh
Woo-ooh, whoop whoop-ooh
Woo-ooh, whoop whoop-ooh
I'm dancing on her grave
Woo-ooh, whoop whoop-ooh
Woo-ooh, whoop whoop-ooh
Dancing on her grave, dancing on her grave
Woo-ooh, whoop whoop-ooh
We′re ghosts, and I'm dancing on her grave
The lyrics to ZZ Ward's song Ghost may initially seem like a typical breakup song, but they hold a deeper message. The song is about the pain that comes with letting go of a toxic relationship, and how it can feel like the person who hurt you is haunting you even after they're gone. The first verse talks about hearing the devil call out the singer's name - this is a metaphor for the voice of the ex who hurt her. She refers to broken promises and burning flames, symbolizing the pain and betrayal that she experienced. The line "frozen hearts in a lover's grave" suggests that the relationship was always doomed to fail, and that they were both dead inside while they were together.
In the chorus, the singer refuses to be told that her ex's new partner "didn't mean nothing" to them, because she knows that the pain she's feeling is real. She acknowledges that she can't take back the bad things her ex did to her, and says goodbye to everything - not just the relationship, but also the person she used to be before it happened. The repetition of the lyric "we're ghosts" represents the feeling of emptiness and disconnection that can come after a breakup, when you feel like a shell of your former self. Finally, the singer declares that she is dancing on her ex's grave, which can be taken both literally, as a symbol of triumph over their toxic relationship, and metaphorically, as a way to exorcise the pain and move on.
Overall, Ghost is a powerful song that captures the complex emotions of a breakup, and the ways in which it can feel like a haunting presence long after it's over.

Used to be like us against the world, but baby, now
You and I, we're just six underground

70 years old this July (2019) and I just about gave up on new music by young musicians but then came Z Z!! The best thing I’ve heard in many a year. First noticed her with Billy Gibbons and Orianthi with Sharp Dressed Man on you tube - bought two albums so far (and we ain’t stopping!!!)

Sadly I doubt very many people knew who she was before the Freeform commercial or PPL, but those who have can say she is nothing short of spectacular. She is true talent and extremely humble and kind in person. I have had the pleasure to meet with her ever time she has come to Louisiana. I think a total of 3 shows now and she is just amazing. Her music is awe inspiring and if you have never taken the time to listen to all her music you should it. Spotify has all of them. Do yourself a favor and check them out!!!!!
