As She's Walking Away
Zac Brown Band (feat. Alan Jackson) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We never spoke a word
But every thought she had I heard from across the room

If we were standing face to face
I couldn't find the words to say
Give me one more move

I don't even know her name
I guess foolish pride's to blame

Now I'm falling in love as she's walking away
And my heart won't tell my mind to tell my mouth what it should say
May have lost this battle, live to fight another day
Now I'm falling in love
As she's walking away

Wise man next to me did say
'Bout the one that got away
"Son, I missed my chance"

"Don't you let regret take place
Of the dreams you have to chase
Ask her to dance, go on, son"

"You might fall down on your face
Roll the dice and have some faith"

And don't be falling in love as she's walking away
When your heart won't tell your mind to tell your mouth what it should say
May have lost this battle, live to fight another day
Don't be falling in love
As she's walking away

You might fall down on your face
Roll the dice and have some faith

And don't be falling in love as she's walking away
When your heart won't tell your mind to tell your mouth what it should say
May have lost this battle, live to fight another day

Don't be falling, falling in, falling in love
As she's walking away

Overall Meaning

In this song, Zac Brown Band tells the story of a man who is taken by a woman he has never met. He is at a bar or a social gathering, where he sees this woman across the room. Although they never spoke, he feels a connection with her and wishes he had found the courage to speak to her. As she walks away, he realizes that he may have missed his chance with her, and his heart is breaking as he watches her go.

The verses are filled with regret and missed opportunities. The singer laments not having the confidence to speak to this woman he cannot get out of his head. He acknowledges that foolish pride may have gotten in the way of what could have been a beautiful relationship. However, the wise man next to him advises him not to let regret take the place of his dreams. He urges him to take a chance, even if it could result in falling on his face. The chorus repeats the same message of not letting love slip away while there's still time.

This song is a reminder of the importance of taking chances and seizing opportunities when they present themselves. Often, we let fear and doubt get in the way of pursuing what could be amazing experiences. It's essential to overcome these insecurities and take a risk, even if it means stumbling in the process.

In 1979 at work one day this young girl came up to me and said she was selling U.S. savings bonds. If I bought one from her, she would take me out for a drink. I did and a year later we were married. 40 years later we have 4 children, 3 grandchildren. May be the most expensive savings bond I ever bought. But it was also the most rewarding savings bond ever, for me. Thank you my love for saving my life.

That made me smile. I hope one day I'll have a story like that.

4 months ago, I started speaking with one of my venders. I met her 7 weeks ago. She is the most amazing woman I've ever met. I realized I loved her even before I met her. The night she sat in my truck and told me she loved me, I knew. She and I didnt create this, it was giving to us.... I will ask her to be my wife, shes already my queen.

As someone with extreme social anxiety this song always hit me hard since the first time i heard it on the radio. So many times i wanted to tell someone how i felt but i ended up letting them walk away due to the fear of rejection. Now I've come to realize the pain of rejection is nothing compared to the pain of wondering every day about what could have been.

@thomasrichardson5661

I wonder all the time what could've been with those 9 or maybe 10 I could've had, but I already knew how that would've gone.

Last sentence is the most truthful thing ever stated. It’s such a shame most guys won’t realize that until it’s far too late to make a difference in their lives

@duckysguidetoshipping8930

Honestly same I hope you find happiness
