As She's Walking Away
Zac Brown Band Alan Jackson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We never spoke a word
But every thought she had I heard from across the room

If we were standing face to face
I couldn't find the words to say
Give me one more move

I don't even know her name
I guess foolish pride's to blame

Now I'm falling in love as she's walking away
And my heart won't tell my mind to tell my mouth what it should say
May have lost this battle, live to fight another day
Now I'm falling in love
As she's walking away

Wise man next to me did say
'Bout the one that got away
Son I missed my chance

Don't you let regret take place
Of the dreams you have to chase
Ask her to dance, go on son

You might fall down on your face
Roll the dice and have some faith

And don't be falling in love as she's walking away
When your heart won't tell your mind to tell your mouth what it should say
May have lost this battle, live to fight another day
Don't be falling in love
As she's walking away

You might fall down on your face
Roll the dice and have some faith

And don't be falling in love as she's walking away
When your heart won't tell your mind to tell your mouth what it should say
May have lost this battle, live to fight another day

Don't be falling, falling, falling in love
As she's walking away

Overall Meaning

The song "As She's Walking Away" sung by Zac Brown Band featuring Alan Jackson is an emotional song that talks specifically about the fear of losing someone, the fear of regret, and the fear of being vulnerable. The song begins by talking about the singer's inability to speak to a woman he's interested in even though he can hear her thoughts clearly from across the room. He's afraid to make the first move and is paralyzed by his foolish pride, leaving him with the painful feeling of falling in love as she's walking away.

The wise man sitting next to him advises him incredibly well about not regretting missed opportunities and advises him not to be afraid to make the first move at the risk of losing. He reassures him that he should ask her to dance, take a chance, and have some faith. The chorus of the song is a repetition of the warnings of the wise man which compares the fear of falling in love as she's walking away, to the fear of walking away from a lost battle, and losing your chance to fight another day.

It encourages the listener to take chances and have faith. It is a relatable song that talks about the journey of love and the emotions that are attached to it.

In 1979 at work one day this young girl came up to me and said she was selling U.S. savings bonds. If I bought one from her, she would take me out for a drink. I did and a year later we were married. 40 years later we have 4 children, 3 grandchildren. May be the most expensive savings bond I ever bought. But it was also the most rewarding savings bond ever, for me. Thank you my love for saving my life.

That made me smile. I hope one day I'll have a story like that.

4 months ago, I started speaking with one of my venders. I met her 7 weeks ago. She is the most amazing woman I've ever met. I realized I loved her even before I met her. The night she sat in my truck and told me she loved me, I knew. She and I didnt create this, it was giving to us.... I will ask her to be my wife, shes already my queen.

As someone with extreme social anxiety this song always hit me hard since the first time i heard it on the radio. So many times i wanted to tell someone how i felt but i ended up letting them walk away due to the fear of rejection. Now I've come to realize the pain of rejection is nothing compared to the pain of wondering every day about what could have been.

I wonder all the time what could've been with those 9 or maybe 10 I could've had, but I already knew how that would've gone.

Last sentence is the most truthful thing ever stated. It’s such a shame most guys won’t realize that until it’s far too late to make a difference in their lives

@duckysguidetoshipping8930

Honestly same I hope you find happiness
