The desire to improve himself motivated him to leave for the country’s capital, Santo Domingo, where he joined the Conservatorio Nacional and also sang in a local bachata group.
Ferreira then became a member of the Brugal rum company orchestra, where he remained for five years. His debut album, Me Liberé, was released in 1997 and won the prestigious Dominican music award, the Cassandra. Three years later his second album, El Triste, won the award for him for a second time.
In the winter of 2001, Ferreira traveled to the United States for the first time and played 77 gigs in just six-and-a-half weeks in New York.

Recuerdo esta canción con mucha tristeza yo soy mexicana y llegue a N.Y en el 2001 en febrero y mi recuerdo k pase por el desierto pensando en mi madre k la deje mala y m prometió k si yo llegaba allá estaría conmigo y así fue llego a N.Y y mi madre se despidió de mi murió ese mismo día y no pude regresar mi esposo había gas tado todo para k yo estuviera con el pero mi madre m dijo k pasará lo k pasara no regresara k fuera feliz allá y en mayo del mismo año me llevo mi esposo a ver a zacarias m rompió el alma esta canción y por siempre sera el himno a mi madre k la sigo amando y m hace mucha falta
