Zazie's mother was an architect and her father a music teacher. Her songs range from upbeat rock or pop songs to languid downtempo tunes and are characterised by the wit of their lyrics based on puns, alliterations, homophones and double-entendres.
Zazie debuted in 1992 with the album "Je Tu Ils" and the single "Sucré salé".
In 1995, she released her sophomore album Zen, which was co-written and co-produced with Vincent-Marie Bouvot. It included the singles "Zen" and "Homme Sweet Homme". Her 1996 single "Un point c'est toi" from the same album was discussed on Canada's MuchMusic TV program Too Much 4 Much due to its controversial content. Ultimately, the discussion panel deemed the video okay for audiences. In the video, a group of four smitten women, including Zazie, follow a pair of men down to a lake. There, the two men strip off their clothes and swim in the water. Zazie fantasizes about undressing one of the men and kissing him. To shock of the women, however, the two men kiss each other.
In 1997, Pascal Obispo and Zazie released the single "Les Meilleurs Ennemis".
Her 1998 album Made in Love was co-produced by Ali Staton, Pierre Jaconelli, and herself. The album photos were taken by fashion designer Jean-Baptiste Mondino. The songs "Ça Fait Mal Et Ça Fait Rien", "Tous des anges", and "Tout Le Monde" were released as singles. This album was followed by a live album, Made in Live, the next year. In 1999 she also wrote a song for Jane Birkin in Jane Birkin's album .
In 2001, Zazie dueted with Axel Bauer on the single "A Ma Place". It was her most successful single in France, reaching number four on the French charts.
Zazie once again addressed gay content on her 2002 single "Adam et Yves" from her 2001 album La Zizanie. This album was produced solely by Pierre Jaconelli. Other singles included "Rue de la paix" and "Danse avec les loops". In 2003, she released another live album, Ze Live.
Her 2004 album Rodéo was co-produced and co-written with Jean-Pierre Pilot and Philippe Paradis. A short film "Rodéo indien" was made using songs from the album as a soundtrack. Zazie played the role of an Indian woman who leaves her cheating husband. She followed this album up with a live album, Rodéo Tour in 2006.
In 2007 her sixth studio album "Totem" was released and debuted at number 1. The second single (but first commercially released) was "Je Suis Un Homme" which became Zazie's first solo top ten hit in France. In Winter 2008 a best of album "Zest of Zazie" was released which as well as past hits contained two new songs "Fm Air" and "Un peu beaucoup" and live recordings.

La tête en l'air
Je prends le soleil
Je traîne et je tourne seule
Des phrases en l'air
Prêchées dans le désert
Et j'ai l'air de quoi
Tant de roses autour de moi
Toutes tes femmes téfales
M'arrachent des larmes
Qui coulent pour un rien
J'arrose ton jardin
Tu m'aimes parfois
Mais les herbes folles comme moi
Ça poussent comme ça
Des cris qui font peur
Tu as peur de quoi
Enfin, tu sais bien
Mais les femmes téfales
S'en fichent pas mal
Que je m'attache à toi
Toutes ces fleurs qu'on te lance
C'est normal
Que tu me fasses du mal
On n'a plus le cœur à rien
Quand on n'a plus le cœur sur la main.
The song "Femmes Téfales" by Zazie portrays the inner turmoil of a woman who is in love with someone who constantly attracts other women. The lyrics describe the singer as a "sunflower seed" who is carefree, enjoying the sun, and spinning alone. However, she soon realizes that she is not the only one fascinated by the person she loves, and this realization causes her immense pain. Zazie uses the metaphor of "tefal women" to describe the other women who are attracted to her love interest. She feels like she is drowning in tears, as she watches these women circle around her love interest like bees.
The singer questions their own self-worth, feeling like she is not as beautiful or as desired as these other women around her love interest. The singer questions her worth, as she feels like she is not as beautiful or as desired as these other women around her love interest. In the second verse, she realizes that her love interest has thrown little pieces of himself on the ground, symbolizing that he does love her sometimes but is attracted to other women at the same time. She has her own insecurities, wondering why her love interest is attracted to other women, and being scared to open up to him entirely.
Overall, the lyrics showcase how insecurity and jealousy can take over a relationship if not addressed. It highlights the woman's constant efforts to hold onto her love interest, despite the presence of other women. The lyrics also give a glimpse into how women try and compare themselves to each other, unable to appreciate their own beauty and value.

Graine de tournesol
I am carefree like a sunflower seed
La tête en l'air
With my head in the clouds
Je prends le soleil
I bask in the sunlight
Je traîne et je tourne seule
I linger and wander alone
Des phrases en l'air
I speak empty words
Prêchées dans le désert
Preached to an empty void
Et j'ai l'air de quoi
And what do I look like
Tant de roses autour de moi
So many roses around me
Elles sont belles mais pas pour moi
They are beautiful but not for me
Toutes tes femmes téfales
All your promiscuous women
M'arrachent des larmes
Bring tears to my eyes
Qui coulent pour un rien
For no reason at all
J'arrose ton jardin
I water your garden
Est-ce que c'est pour ces fleurs du mal
Is it for these poisonous flowers
Que ton cœur s'emballe
That your heart races
Je les arracherais bien
I want to uproot them
Toutes ces belles plantes de tes mains
All these beautiful plants you cultivate
Tu sèmes parfois sur le sol
You sometimes sow on the ground
Des petits morceaux de toi
Little pieces of yourself
Qui me vont droit au cœur
That touch my heart directly
Tu m'aimes parfois
You love me sometimes
Mais les herbes folles comme moi
But wild weeds like me
Ça poussent comme ça
Grow like this
Des cris qui font peur
Screams that scare you
Tu as peur de quoi
What are you afraid of
Je te croyais à l'épreuve des balles
I thought you were bulletproof
Moi le gratin m'est égal
I don't care about the elite
Je ne chasse pas les étoiles
I don't chase the stars
Mais toutes tes femmes téfales
But all your promiscuous women
M'arrachent des larmes
Bring tears to my eyes
Qui coulent pour un rien
For no reason at all
J'arrose ton jardin
I water your garden
Dire que c'est pour ces fleurs du mal
To think it's for these poisonous flowers
Que ton cœur s'emballe
That your heart races
Alors que le mien
When mine
Enfin, tu sais bien
Finally, you know well
Mais les femmes téfales
But promiscuous women
S'en fichent pas mal
Don't care a bit
Que je m'attache à toi
That I'm attached to you
Toutes ces fleurs qu'on te lance
All these flowers thrown at you
C'est normal
It's normal
Que tu me fasses du mal
That you hurt me
On n'a plus le cœur à rien
We don't have the heart for anything
Quand on n'a plus le cœur sur la main.
When we don't have a generous heart.
