The Man I Love
Zebedy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Someday he'll come along
The man I love
And he'll be big and strong
The man I love
And when he comes my way
I'll do my best to make him stay
He'll look at me and smile,
I'll understand
Then in a little while,
He'll take my hand
And though it seems absurd
I know we both won't say a word

Maybe I shall meet him Sunday,
Maybe Monday, maybe not
Still I'm sure to meet him one day
Maybe Tuesday
Will be my good news day

We'll build a little home,
Just meant for two
From which I'll never roam,
Who would, would you
And so all else above
I'm waiting of the man I love

Maybe I shall meet him Sunday
Maybe Monday, maybe not
Still I'm sure to meet him one day
Maybe Tuesday
Will be my good news day

We'll build a little home
Just meant for two
From which I'll never roam
Who would, would you

And so all else above
I'm waiting for the man I love

Overall Meaning

In "The Man I Love," Zebedy sings about waiting for the perfect man to come into her life. She describes him as "big and strong" and when she meets him, she'll do everything in her power to make him stay. She imagines him smiling at her and taking her hand, without either of them needing to say a word. Zebedy believes she will one day meet the man of her dreams, maybe on a Sunday or a Monday, and they'll build a little home together where they'll never want to leave.

A tremendous song sung during the closing credits of a show which NEVER ought to have been cancelled.

The show was so... truthful in a way I can't explain.
I usually don't enjoy gay-themed shows because of how unrelatable I find them despite being gay myself. But not with Looking.
And god, this song. It's simply everything I ever wanted out of this life. Fuck partying, fuck sleeping around. I just want the man I love.

When I heard this come on and the male vocals, it threw me off. Like whoaaaa. Older generation singing about a gay lover and liked it so much:) Need more songs like this.

Zebedy was a very fascinating man - childactor in Laurel&Hardy, Marx bros, Shirley Temple-movies , and later director & leading man in bizarre XXX-movies (sex wish, devil inside her, story of joanna). He was born 1929 and died 2004. Real name:Edward Earl Marsh.
