What's Going On
Zebrahead Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Seems like everybody's got a problem
No one knows how
But, we all want to solve 'em
You could give a dime
Give a hand
Or give a shit
Or could look away and never deal with it
For example
This girl is pretty fly for a white gal
All the guys want her even though she's a juvenite
She's really kinda sad and just don't care
'Cause the only one she wants is her best friend Claire

What's going on?
What's going on?
Ready or not, not!
The world moves on and on and on
Yo, what's going on?

There's nothing much to me
I'm simple like you are, ordinary
My tired eyes can see
That time may fly
And what's left is
Meant to be
I'm looking out
You're looking in
It's taken more then time
To erase the stain
And it's never been the same

Any city
A girl turns 17, goes to a party
She and he best friend are drinking Bacardi
Ever since she walked through the door
All the guys have been scoping and flexing tryin' to score
But she's a good girl
So she won't have none of that
She takes another sip
But has no clue of the spike from the G to the H to the B
She wakes up in the morning
bruised and raped in the street

What's going on?
What's going on?
Ready or not, not!
The world moves on and on and on
Yo, what's going on?

Your town
A kid that you know goes to school
He's really kinda shy and not that cool
He knows what it's like to look in from the outside
Inside, he just wants someone to confide
But everyone's busy and no one's got the time
He takes his dad's gun and says
"This is how I'll shine"
Boom, boom, boom
And the kids fall down
On the ground
Dumbfound (dumbfound)

What's going on?
What's going on?
Ready or not, not!
The world moves on and on and on
Yo, what's going on?

For example
This girl is pretty fly for a white gal
All the guys want her even though she's a juvenite

She's really kinda sad and just don't care
'Cause the only one she wants is her best friend Claire

Overall Meaning

The song "What's Goin' On?" by Zebrahead talks about a variety of social issues and problems that exist in society as a whole. The overarching theme of the song is asking the question "what's going on?" and trying to find answers or solutions to the issues that the song presents.

The first verse talks about how people can choose to respond to problems in different ways. Some people might give money or help out in some other tangible way, while others might choose to ignore the problem entirely. The second part of the verse talks about a girl who is popular and desired by guys but who is also unhappy and only wants to be with her best friend. It's a commentary on how material possessions and social status aren't everything and can often mask deeper issues.

The second verse talks about a party where a girl gets drugged and raped. It highlights the dangers that come from trusting strangers and how quickly life can change when someone is taken advantage of. The last verse talks about a kid who is struggling with isolation and depression and eventually takes his own life. It's a powerful reminder that people's struggles aren't always visible on the surface and that it's important to be aware of them and offer help when possible.

Overall, "What's Goin' On?" is a commentary on the toll that societal problems can take on individual people and the importance of paying attention and offering help.

Remembering listening this song at home after school, 2004 year if im not mistaken, at that time i'd thought i will always love Zebrahead, but then its all changed in to extreme rap metal, and poppunk mood disappeared with Justin quiting out of band. Still loves their early records.
