Where the past comes back to life
Fight fear for the selfish pain
It was worth it every time
Hold still right before we crash
'Cause we both know how this ends
Our clock ticks till it breaks your glassAnd I drown in you again
'Cause you are the piece of me
I wish I didn't need
Chasing relentlessly
Still fight and I don't know why
If our love is tragedy why are you my remedy?
If our love's insanity why are you my clarity?
Why are you my clarity?
Walk on through a red parade
And refuse to make amends
It cuts deep through our ground
And makes us forget all common sense
Don't speak as I try to leave
'Cause we both know what we'll choose
If you pull, then I'll push too deep
And I'll fall right back to you
'Cause you are the piece of me
I wish I didn't need
Chasing relentlessly
Still fight and I don't know why
If our love is tragedy why are you my remedy?
If our love's insanity why are you my clarity?
Why are you my clarity?
Why are you my clarity?
Why are you my clarity?
The first verse of Zedd's song "Clarity" describes the feeling of diving into the unknown, with the "frozen waves" representing something that may be beautiful but also dangerous. The past coming back to life is a reminder of what has been lost, and the fear that accompanies taking a risk for personal gain is significant. However, the decision to take that leap is ultimately worth it, even if it is painful. The line "Hold still right before we crash 'cause we both know how this ends" speaks to the inevitability of the situation ending, but also the desire to savor the moment before it does.
The chorus of the song portrays the singer's dependence on their love interest, despite the relationship being tumultuous. The lines "If our love is tragedy, why are you my remedy? If our love's insanity, why are you my clarity?" suggest that the love they share may be unhealthy, but it is also the only thing keeping them afloat. The repetition of the question "why?" implies that the singer does not fully understand why they are so drawn to this person, but they cannot help but continue pursuing them.
The second verse goes into more detail about the relationship, describing a situation where the couple is in the midst of an argument or disagreement. The phrase "refuse to make amends" suggests that both parties are stubborn and do not want to come to a resolution, leading to an even greater divide between them. Despite this, they cannot help but be pulled back together, as the line "If you pull, then I'll push too deep and I'll fall right back to you" indicates.
