Collapse
Zeds Dead Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm lying on my side and I'm wondering when will it all collapse
I'm lying to myself if I said that I'm never coming back
Can't remember all the things that you said, or the reasons why I left
But now this room is spinning while I'm trying just to fill in all the gaps

You're so used to walking away
And I'm left here on my own
I never listen to what they say
But you're already gone
Yeah, you're already gone
You're already gone
You're already gone
You're gone
You're gone, gone, gone, gone, gone, gone

Lying on my side and I'm wondering when will it all collapse

You're gone
You're gone, gone, gone, gone, gone, gone

Lying on my side and I'm wondering when will it all collapse
I lie here on my own when you're gone, but you're never coming back
And every time I'm down and out, I think of what we had
So now I'm driving 'round in circles trying to fill in all the gaps

You're so used to walking away
And I'm left here on my own
I never listen to what they say
But you're already gone
Yeah, you're already gone
You're already gone
Yeah, you're already gone
You're gone
You're gone, gone, gone, gone, gone, gone

Lying on my side and I'm wondering when will it all collapse

You're gone
You're gone, gone, gone, gone, gone, gone

Yeah, you're already gone
You're already gone
Yeah, you're already gone

You're gone
You're gone

Overall Meaning

The song "Collapse" by Zeds Dead is a lyrical story of heartbreak, loss, and the struggle to move on. The opening lines build the tension and set the tone for the song, as the singer's thoughts dwell on the inevitable collapse of a relationship. The second line expresses a sense of self-deception, holding onto the hope that the person might return. However, the singer is wrestling with their emotions and struggling to forget the reasons behind the breakup, leading to confusion in their mind. The chorus indicates that the person has gone and that they have come to terms with this fact. However, despite this apparent closure, the singer continues to fixate on the past, circling around the same thoughts and memories.

The second verse brings further insight into the singer's state of mind. They are emotionally drained and unable to move on, continuously dwelling on what could have been. The final lines of the song pack the most emotional punch, as the singer seems resigned to their fate and the reality that the person they love is gone. The repeated lines of "You're already gone" and "You're gone" drive home this point, emphasizing the sense of loss felt by the singer.

The song's core message is that of heartbreak and loss, prompted by failed relationships or an unrequited love. However, it also speaks to the difficulties of moving on and the struggle to forget. While the singer tries to convince themselves that they have moved on, they remain stuck in a painful cycle of thinking about their past lover.

Whenever I hear this song, I'll never forget the moment; standing up top
of the highest points of Red Rocks. Overlooking the whole venue and
beyond, feeling the most perfect gusts of cool breeze over my whole body
all while Zeds Dead drops this song. Great feeling; perfect moment. Pure fucking bliss.

I met my ex boyfriend at a zd show 2015, i gave him my number and he never reached out. 2017, i went to another zd show and he came up to me without realizing who it was... the rest was history. He passed away may of 2021. He was my very best friend up until his last days here. This song is kinda my comfort knowing I experienced this in the most loveable way.
