1. Zen was a Dutch pop/rock band of the late 1960s, established in 1965 by by Siegfried 'Siebe' de Jong (vocals, saxophone) and Dirk van der Ploeg (guitar, vocals). They are almost exclusively known for their version of the theme song from the musical 'Hair', which made them the perfect 'one hit wonder' in early 1969. Recorded in late 1968, 'Hair' rocketed straight to #1 in the Dutch Top 40 in January 1969. The début LP Hair (1969) was an integral cover version of the musical's soundtrack. That year the band was joined by Harry Rijnbergen and Bennie Groen of the recently dissolved RO-D-YS. Rijnbergen penned Zen's second and last hit single, 'Get Me Down', peaking at #26 in The Dutch charts. The band more or less split up in 1970, but resurfaced a number of times throughout the 1970s, in various line-ups, one of which released a second studio LP (Zen Again, 1973).

Quédate
Zen Lyrics

déjame tratar de asimilar.
Quédate una noche más,
déjame tratar de entender...
Prometo no hablar,
prometo no tocarte.
Si me voy, si no estás, nunca más,
La noche hablará,
Si me voy, si no estás, nunca más.
Quédate una noche más,
siento que será la ultima vez.
Quédate una noche más,
aunque sólo crucen las miradas.
Prometo no llorar,
prometo no acercarme.
El tiempo dirá,
Si me voy, si no estás, nunca más.
La noche hablará,
si me voy, si no estás, nunca más.
Prometo no hablar,
prometo no acercarme.
El tiempo dirá,
si me voy, si no estás, nunca más.
La noche hablará,
si me voy, si no estás, nunca más...
La noche hablará... oooh..oooh..oooh
El tiempo dirá,
si me voy, si no estás nunca más.
The lyrics to Zen's song "Quédate" seem to be addressed to someone who the singer is asking to spend one more night with them. The singer is hoping to come to terms with their feelings and understand their current situation better. They promise not to speak or touch the other person, and acknowledge that if they do leave and the other person is not there, they may never see each other again. There is a sense of finality in the lyrics, with the idea that this may be the last chance they have to be together.
The repetition of "Quédate una noche más" emphasizes the singer's desperation to hold onto this moment and perhaps their relationship as a whole. They understand that it may only be a fleeting encounter, "aunque sólo crucen las miradas" (although only exchanging glances), but they are willing to try to make it last. The refrain of "El tiempo dirá, si me voy, si no estás, nunca más, la noche hablará" (Time will tell, if I leave and you're not here, never again, the night will speak) seems to suggest that the outcome of this night will be determined by time and circumstance, and the night itself will bear witness to what happens.
Overall, the lyrics convey a sense of urgency and uncertainty, and the emotions of the singer are sincere and raw. The song captures the intensity of a moment of longing for someone, yet the uncertainty of what that moment may bring.
