I'm gonna be 33 this year and have also a bond with this song too. It was on a MTV or vh1 commercial a long time ago I remember watching. And have heard it now and then and every time I do, it brings me back to that one Era in my life when things were so much simpler. If you notice, she even modifies the consecutive end-of-pre-chorus "I'm nearly with you" by lengthening the silence between "I'm nearly" and "with you." There are other subtle song methods used and, if you try to sing along, these subtle modifications end up slipping you up, which is a mark of an outstanding singer. Zero 7 is good music.

I absolutely love this song. The words are so powerful. It gives me a nostalgic vibe. I remember this song when I was in a dark place. Not a bad dark, but a beautiful darkness if that makes sense.

Dunno why. But this is one of those “I’ll never forget where I was when I first heard it” songs.

It was a summer in 2001- a Saturday morning. I was 16. I saw the video while watching music videos on mtv in the living room of my parents house. I remember the animated video and was fascinated how they got the animations to move like real people. I loved the song but didn’t really understand what genre it was. I felt so calm and serene watching it.

Then I remember that movie blue crush movie came out around 2002 and I heard it on that movie.

@Alexander Powell Great analysis Alexander. I agree, Zero 7 and Air were unreal back in those days. So miss those bands. So glad I got to see them live. Would love to see them again.

@Nil Zero That's impressive. This is an outstanding song. I don't mean to be critical of her (or your) talent. It's just not my preference. Chandelier was a good song undoubtedly, I just miss the mellowness and style of Simple Things.

@Live & Quality I am the recording engineer and part composer of this version and a longtime friend of Sia. No shade on your opinion at all as they're vastly different styles of music but the evolution of her singing and production requirements between this and what was required for Chandelier certainly pushed my own abilities. I thought that may interest you and others.
