In the Waiting Line
Zero 7 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Wait in line
'Till your time
Ticking clock
Everyone stop

Everyone's saying different things to me
Different things to me
Everyone's saying different things to me
Different things to me

Do you believe
In what you see
There doesn't seem to be anybody else who agrees with me

Do you believe
In what you see
Motionless wheel
Nothing is real
Wasting my time
In the waiting line
Do you believe in
What you see

Nine to five
Living lies
Everyday
Stealing time
Everyone's taking everything they can
Everything they can
Everyone's taking everything they can
Everything they can

Do you believe
In what you feel
It doesn't seem to be anybody else who agrees with me

Do you believe
In what you see
Motionless wheel
Nothing is real
Wasting my time
In the waiting line
Do you believe
In what you see

Ah and I'll shout and I'll scream
But I'd rather not be seen
And I'll hide away for another day

Do you believe
In what you see
Motionless wheel
Nothing is real
Wasting my time
In the waiting line
Do you believe
In what you see

Everyone's saying different things to me
Different things to me
Everyone's saying different things to me
Different things to me
Everyone's saying different things to me
Different things to me
Everyone's saying different things to me
Different things to me
Everyone's saying different things to me
Different things to me
Everyone's taking everything they can
Everything they can
And everyone's taking everything they can
Everything they can

And everyone's saying different things to me
Different things to me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Zero 7’s “In the Waiting Line” convey a sense of frustration and disillusionment with everyday life. The singer of the song is waiting in line, wasting time and feeling motionless, while everyone around them seems to be taking everything they can. The ticking clock and the mundane routine of everyday life are conveyed through the verse “Nine to five, living lies, everyday stealing time.” Despite feeling as though they are the only one who is disenchanted with their existence, the singer repeatedly asks “Do you believe in what you see?”, suggesting a search for someone who shares their outlook on life.

The chorus of the song highlights the feelings of isolation and disconnect that the singer experiences, with the lines “Motionless wheel, nothing is real, wasting my time in the waiting line.” The repetition of “Do you believe in what you see?” reinforces the idea that the singer is searching for meaning and connection amidst the monotony of their daily routine.

The final verse of the song suggests a feeling of resignation and hopelessness regarding the situation. The lines “And I’ll shout and I’ll scream, but I’d rather not have seen, and I’ll hide away for another day” suggest that the singer has come to accept their circumstances, even if they are unhappy with them.

Overall, the lyrics to “In the Waiting Line” convey a sense of frustration and disillusionment with the monotony of everyday life, as well as a desire for connection and meaning amidst this routine.

This video always made me feel sorry for the android...

Everyday, goes through same routine...

Nothing ever changes...

Every day it's the same & same every night...

Wasting His Time...

It's as if android gains some consciousness that they're alone...

But continues as always...

Thank you for response, wasn't expecting anyone to respond, but it is much appreciated...

At 1:15 to 1:21

Android surveys room, sees he's placed trays in front of everyone ( everyone's needs have been meet & are ok )...

But robot then looks down for a moment as if sad...

At 1:51 to 2:04 in video...

Why is robot shaking / shuddering as if sad from fact:

Everyone's saying different things to me
Different things to me

Everyone's taking everything they can
Everything they can

... but nobody seems to care about robot / android's needs / interest / feelings...

Android is figurative for human being / person...
