The Colour of Spring
Zero 7 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

"Forget our fate" the pedlar sings
Set up to sell my soul
I've lived a life for wealth to bring

And yet I gaze at the colour of spring
Immerse in that one moment
Left in love to everything
Soar the bridges that I burnt before

One song among us all

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "The Colour of Spring" by Zero 7 feat. Only Girl reflect a sense of introspection and contemplation. The opening line, "Forget our fate," suggests that the singer is attempting to ignore the negative aspects of their life, particularly the notion that they may have made a deal with the devil (symbolized by the pedlar singing about selling his soul). They have spent their life chasing after wealth, only to realize the importance of the simple pleasures in life, symbolized by the "colour of spring." The singer is fully immersed in the present moment, allowing themselves to experience love for everything around them. The phrase "Soar the bridges that I burnt before" suggests that the singer has reconciled with their past and is looking forward to the future with newfound optimism.

The chorus, "One song among us all," is a powerful mantra that emphasizes the idea that we are all connected in some way. It suggests that even though we have different struggles and experiences, we all share the human experience and can find solace in music. The lyrics are both melancholic and uplifting, suggesting that it is possible to find beauty in even the bleakest aspects of life if one maintains an open-minded perspective. The message of the song seems to be that by living in the moment and appreciating the simple things in life, we can find peace and joy.

The longer I listened to this song the more I liked it.

@drezewskii

Too bad this music is so unpopular, I've been listening to these gems since april and I think they're brilliant! Keep it up! :)

Karol Dreżewski Have you heard the first 3 albums? They are the best stuff IMO. The music is not as disjointed and more melodic. Sia / Sophie Barkers vocals make the songs even better too. I actually prefer Sia when she was in this band to her solo stuff. Simple Things / When it Falls / The Garden = :)

+James Smith I think you're right to recommend the first joints to the dude.

@Laura......

So, since zero7's 1st album in 2001 I've enjoyed their music.
Saying that though, you can't do this to the beauty of Mark Hollis's delicate beautiful song . ( without even stating it's a cover version either)
Then unfortunately turn it into another 'generic' zero7 tune.
Also, did you give credit to the Doobie Brothers for 'Flying Cloud?' Aka 'in the waiting line?'
