House of Cards
Zeromancer Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
After all we have been through
How can you stand there and deny it?
And make a fool out of you
Collapsing
Like houses of cards
And landing
Wish I could fake it like you do
Wish I could fake it just like you
How can you stand there and deny it?
How can you stand there and deny it?
Trust me now
Collapsing
Like houses of cards
And landing
On splinters and glass
They crush your heart
But spare your feet
Like judging people
You've yet to meet
Well time is running fast
Upon your reflection
Trust me now
How can you stand there
Stand and deny it?
The lyrics of Zeromancer's song "Houses of Cards" describe a broken relationship where one party is in denial about their failure. The singer is frustrated with their partner's inability to acknowledge the reality of the situation, despite all they've been through. The imagery of "collapsing like houses of cards" and "landing on splinters and glass" further emphasizes the fragility and pain of the situation. The singer expresses a desire to be able to "fake it" like their partner, but ultimately can't continue on that way.
In the second verse, the lyrics expand upon the theme of judgment and the pressure of time, with the imagery of "crushing hearts" and "judging people you've yet to meet." The idea that "time is running fast" emphasizes a sense of urgency and the need for resolution. The repeated plea of "trust me now" suggests a final attempt to salvage the relationship, but it's unclear whether that trust is granted or not.

I tend to find that a lot of these brilliant Industrial bands are underrated because of all the untalented garbage in mainstream chart land which just makes me cringe. However, because of YouTube, NME, Kerrang etc., a lot of these bands are more getting a lot more recognition compared to years ago and not staying so underground anymore. Zeromancer please come and play in the UK soon. You are great!
