They formed the Melody Makers when they were teenagers in 1979, and recorded "Children Playing in the Streets" with their father. They went on to perform at their father's funeral in 1981.
The band's popularity was at its highest during 1988, prompting a major record deal with Virgin Records. Shortly thereafter, the group released "Conscious Party," their third album. On the album was the hit single "Tomorrow People," and the album went on to earn a well-deserved Grammy.

Happiness come from the way we live
Not the money we receive
'Cause even the poor man is rich
Love in our hearts
Health strength and longevity
[Chorus: x2]
Live it up don't give it up
If right means what it means to me
Before words were spoken
JAH law was written within
IF right means what it means to you
What the preacher say is not what the prach do
[Chorus: x2]
Life for me
life for you life for me
Life for you
[repeat]
There is no owner's manual for the life that we lead
Learn as you grow
More power to you
In life there's many stages but don't you quit
'Cause when the table turn more power to you
More powe to you
Good now
Everyone feeling
Good now [Repeat: x2]
[Repeat: x2]

The lyrics to Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers' song "Live It Up" emphasize the idea of finding happiness through living life on your own terms rather than through material possessions. The opening lines argue that personal satisfaction and contentment come from the way we live our lives rather than the amount of money we possess. The song also notes that even those who have very little can still experience happiness if they adopt a positive mindset and maintain strong relationships with others through love, health, strength, and longevity.
In the chorus, the phrase "Live It Up" is repeated, signifying the importance of seizing the day and making the most out of life. Additionally, the song encourages listeners to honor their values and prioritize understanding the underlying principles that govern the world around them. Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers advise their listeners against blindly accepting what religious figures or authority figures tell them, encouraging them to seek out their own path to righteousness.
