Overall Meaning

Zilo’s song Cherry is about a complicated romantic relationship. The singer in the song is aware that their partner keeps coming back to them for the thrill of the chase, the manipulations and the financial benefits. The partner is addicted to their company, much like they are addicted to finer things like cashmere. The singer acknowledges that their partner is not easy to please, and strives to keep them on their toes in order to keep their interest. Despite the warnings of friends and acquaintances, both parties have a hard time letting go of the relationship. The song ends with the couple enjoying each other’s company and indulging in some Hennessy.

The lyrics are intriguing in that they shed light on the power dynamics present in some relationships. The singer is not blind to the fact that their partner is chasing after materialistic pleasures, and in turn, using them for their resources.
