The band got its first big break in the BRU Rock Hunt, an annual Battle of the Bands run by Providence commercial alternative/indie rock station 95.5 WBRU.
They have an uncanny ability to blend rock - from new wave to progressive - with ska, punk balladry, and a bit of baroque into something highly original. Miller's direct and personal songwriting derives from an unquestionable pop sensibility, while the band's sophisticated arrangements and intricate instrumentals give their songs an expansive and psychedelic edge. The band further distinguishes itself by using the electric violin as a lead instrument. Described by The Village Voice as "a cross between Eddie Van Halen and Papa John Creach," violinist Spencer Swain adds swirling textures and searing melodies that range from the pretty to the profane.
Members of the band include Eli Miller (Vocals/Guitar), John Zox (Drums/Percussion), Spencer Swain (Violin/Vocals), and Dan Edinberg (Bass/Vocals/Keys). Former members include Eli Batalion.
Currently, the band has produced three albums: Take Me Home which was released by Armo Records in 2003, The Wait which was released by SideOneDummy Records in 2006 and Line in the Sand which was released by SideOneDummy Records in 2008. The band quietly disbanded in 2009, reuniting for concerts at Lupo's in their hometown of Providence in August 2011 and October 2014.
The Same
Zox Lyrics

Put it under water let it go
Don't forget to cut the yellow wires
Oh no
We were sure that it was indestructible
The same doesn't feel the same
It doesn't feel the same
And then the room caught fire
I tried to put it out the flames got higher
I wasn't wearing my protective gear
Oh no
We were only trying to feed it oxygen
The same doesn't feel the same
It doesn't feel the same
The same doesn't feel the same anymore
When the smoke had cleared
And the sirens disappeared
You smiled up at me from your magazine
And I could say
That everything has changed
But maybe it's just me
Maybe it's just me
The same doesn't feel the same
It doesn't feel the same
The same doesn't feel the same anymore
The lyrics of Zox's song "The Same" tell a story of experimenting with something that was thought to be indestructible, only to have it all come crumbling down. The first verse talks about trying to diffuse a potentially explosive situation by putting it under water and cutting the yellow wires. However, things don't go as planned, and the indestructible object is damaged. This sets the stage for the chorus, where the singer repeats, "The same doesn't feel the same anymore."
The second verse reveals the aftermath of the failed experiment. The room catches fire, and the singer tries to put it out, but it only makes things worse. They weren't prepared for the damage it caused, as they weren't wearing their protective gear. The experiment was only meant to feed the object oxygen, but it ended up being a disaster.
The song ends on a more reflective note, with the aftermath of the experiment. The smoke clears, and the sirens fade away, and the singer sees someone else smiling. The chorus repeats once more, but this time with a slightly different perspective. The same object may not feel the same, but maybe it's not the object that has changed, but the one who tried to manipulate it.
Overall, "The Same" tells a story of experimentation gone wrong, but also touches on the idea of personal growth and changing perspectives.
